Ok, just finished another 2k game with slightly different fleets:
NOTE: This is a very quick AAR based on a test game to try out the suggested rules for switching the fighter firing order (see the main CB forum for more details). Having said that, this is not a full AAR but just a quick recap of the test game.
Task Force Carrier (TFC)
BCC (450 ton: 15 Fighters and 9 Fusion Torps for fighters)
2x BCB (500 and 300 tons)
2x CAB (350 and 270 tons)
Task Force Battleline (TFB)
2x BCB (500 Ton)
3x CAB (350, 300, 200 tons)
CLR
Fleets started at speed 5 about 25 hexes apart. Around turn 2 both fleets were within medium firing range. Both BCBs from each task force took moderate damage with no other ships being fired at.
Turn 3 started with a bang! In the missile movement phase, lucky salvo got through the defenses of a TFB BCB and rolled 20 on the crit table (our first Reactor Explosion…yippee!!! ). The resulting explosion did some moderate damage to the surrounding fighters and took the Aft shields down on an unfortunate TFB CA and did an Engine crit for good measure.
Unfortunately, TFB missiles found their mark on a BCB and it in turn went down (with a whimper but gone none the less). The firing phase saw the fighters from TFC take down the shields on the remaining enemy BCB so that the last TFC BCB could hit straight to hull. After a few well places shots, the final TFB Battle cruiser went down in flames.
Now came the Escort firing phase and all four TFB cruisers (3 CAs and a CL) fired at the damaged TFC BCB. When the smoke cleared (wait, there’s smoke in space? ), the TFC Battle Cruiser was no more. Things looked grim for TFC which only had 1 CA and its Battlecruiser carrier vs the enemy’s 3 CAs and 1 CL.
On the final turn, TFC won initiative and decided to be tactical player (so he got to see where the bad guys were going to be). In doing so, the remaining CA was able to move so as to escape the firing arcs from one CA and reduce the other 3 ships firing a bit. TFC still had all 15 fighters on the board and moved to surround the engine damaged CA (it did not repair last turn) and 2 other cruisers.
The fighters stripped the rear shields of the TFB CA. It in turn fired but was unable to seriously damage the last TFC CA (that happened to be in its rear arc). Now, the TFC CA fired at the unshielded heavy cruiser and got a few penetrating hits. On the first critical roll, another Engine hit was rolled…which when already damaged turns into a Reactor Explosion…2 in one game…woot!!!
Again, some more fighters were damaged but nothing a quick stop by the carrier wouldn’t fix up.
At this point, TFB seeing their biggest remaining ship go up in a nova-bright explosion, decided discretion was the better part of valor and fled the table edge.
