Just starting to stat out my Colonial Fleet for BSG and I noticed something a little off. In the list of suggested stats and minis to use it states that the Hera class in MvM should be used. However, the Hecate, clearly, has a fighter launch/recovery deck but the Hera class in MvM does not allow for the addition of 2 or even 1 squadron of Viper mk 2s.
Now, I have a mind to use the Augustus in MvM as it does allow for 2 squadrons of fighters, but it is a size 3 vessel, that puts it in the same size category of the Columbia (Hermes) class Battlestar I also have in the my fleet. Does seem a reasonable solution?
All suggestions welcome.

The launch/recovery deck on the Hecate and other smaller ships was deemed to be for visiting shuttles and fighters, not for a squadron of thier own.

Uhm, ok. Doens't make sense to me, but let's run with it for now. But, even if this is so would the design sill not have to allocate tonnage for the launch/recovery system?

Uhm, ok. Doens't make sense to me, but let's run with it for now. But, even if this is so would the design sill not have to allocate tonnage for the launch/recovery system? Legate, I gave a quick answer to your inquiry, so allow me to expand on the answer. Looking at the Hera (Hecate) model, you see a piece/housing under the ship with an opening facing the front. It could be a launch/recovery pad, no argument here. Furthermore, if you look at the Nemesis (one model up in design/shape) or the Vambrace (Luna/Lori) (one model down in shape) they don’t have this bay/housing. So why not give the Hecate a bay? We judged all models with a separate launch bay, defined as a bay with openings on both ends like the Battlestars have, to be fighter capable. It didn’t matter where the bay was located; therefore the Augustus (Hunter) has fighters because of the bay under the ship. We decided as a norm, that non-bay ships wouldn’t have a fighter bay for the colonials. It is true there are some exceptions as models without a bay also have fighters or gunships (Armageddon-Charybdis for example), but they were limited. The Armageddon D, my favorite ship in the fleet, only carries one Tiger while the Battleline version carries two squadrons of Panther Strike fighters. As the Hecate has a single opening bay, we deemed it to be the area where shuttles and such dropped off crew (no transporters in the game), brought in supplies, or where visitors arrived on the ship. As such, it doesn’t need all the support that goes with the launch/recovery bays which is part of the cost for these areas in ship/game building terms as given in the fighter squadron cost. You can do as you like of course, but we wanted support ships for the Colonials that didn’t have fighters. There are other ships that could be argued have bays and should carry fighters. Hesiodus (Victory model) has an opening on each side of the ship. They clearly look like launch ports; we didn’t give it any type of fighter/gunship. Why? At 84 mass, it would use all of its points to have a squadron with nothing left for anything else, not a great ship for a playable game. The Cyborgs, who are a fighter first race, carry them on almost all designs. They started to design ships without fighter only after seeing the benefit of such ships use by the Colonials.

So, does the Hecate fall under the "Leave no one behind" special rule for the Colonials as it does have "landing facilities?"

No, it can't take on a squadron, as it doesn't have room.
