Laser etching wood would have a high capital investment (space, laser, cnc controller, staging and X and Y motors, CAM program) but once you had it all set up you'd just lay the wood on the stage, line up in the right place, and then hit a button and it's all done. If you want to make high volumes of product with low operating cost and minimal training requirement lasers are the way to go. It would be way simpler (I assume) than getting molds made and making plastic corridors. And making the pieces out of wood would be super cheap on the materials side. Man.... why didn't I ever think of this.

I keep getting updates on this stuff and it looks like late summer or early fall before it arrives. He got a lot more orders than he figured, I'll let you know when it comes in.
