In the main rules movement is recorded in the ship data sheet and all movement for each class is resolved at the same time.
The part that I am having a hard time understanding is how you do you actually do that when the other player is in front you? Its not like we can put a blind up when ships are close to each other.
If you use the optional rules for movement and shooting, is the shooting phase in initiative order or is it still at the same time. For example all BB resolve shots at same time from both sides.
Thanks for the help.

You're supposed to have an idea of where you want your ship to go during the movement phase. The written orders can't capture all the subtleties of that but the assumption is that you will move your ship where you intended and not react to the maneuvers of your opponent.
If that's not something that works for your group, you can use the initiative system as well.
Shooting would still occur simultaneously during the initiative system, but if you prefer you could resolve it in initiative order. Obviously that would increase the value of winning initiative.

Thanks for the quick response. I really want to try simultaneous movement but can"t seem to figure out how to do it without movement being influenced by the other person.
After you write your orders do the 2 sides then alternate moving the models? The reason I ask is because the turns are kind of vague. When a person has an order for "2p3s2" the turns can be up to 90° and is not specific like "2p45°3s50°2.
if you could be so kind as to give an example of a movement phase I would appreciate it.

No, you've got it exactly right. There is the temptation to change your movement in reaction to your opponent's. But you must resist and have a clear visual in mind of how you want to move the model.
Really, the simultaneous movement thing is just a time-saving measure designed to speed up large games. So if you're really struggling with it, just use initiative movement instead.

Thanks. I think we will use the initiative movement. It will feel more fare.
BTW we love the rules. It is a really amazing rule set.
