Hello all,
I've had Colonial Battlefleet for a while, but am finally getting into ship construction (Star Wars). I downloaded the latest version of the rules this week, but have come across what appears to be either an inconsistency in the hull type/size tables in the rules or me not understanding something; this same issue was in my older edition of the rules when I checked.
The hull type tables on p.88 and 91 of the current rules have types and their hull values as: Battleship - 80-100 HV Battlecruiser - 60-79 HV Heavy Cruiser - 40-59 HV Light Cruiser - 30-39 HV Destroyer - 20-29 HV
I had assumed in the above table each Hull Type is also the same as Hull Size (e.g. Battleships are 5, Destroyers are 1). However, Appendix I (Construction Costs Table) breaks down as:
Hull Size 5 = 90-100 HV (not 80-100) Hull Size 4 = 70-89 HV (not 60-79) Hull Size 3 = 50-69 HV (not 40-59) Hull Size 2 = 30-49 HV (not 30-39) Hull Size 1 = 20-29 HV
Am I wrong in my assumption that Hull Size and Hull Type should match? The Excel ship builder also seems to go both ways, calling 85HV ships Battleships and limiting them to BB roles, but giving them size 4.
Thanks, Chris

No the hull sizes do not match the class, I'm quite sure it is deliberate to allow for cheaper and less capable battleships, or souped up heavy cruisers trying to be line of battle ships. Remember Harry came at this from a naval gaming background were role was more important than size, historically battle cruisers were longer than battleships and cruisers could be as long as battleships just much narrower (because a ships max speed depends on the length to beam ratio)

It was done deliberately as describe above. The big deal with Battlecruisers is they had big guns like battleships, but with less armor to may them faster. The idea was they could handle almost anything but battleships, and they could out run them.

Thanks guys, that makes sense now. I think it would help newbies to have that clear in the rules, perhaps even have hull type as another column in the CCT. I had to do a double (and triple) take when I first realized that my 60-69HV BCs (Victory-class SDs) were going to be size 3.
