Houston will have a naval wargame event (Broadside2013) aboard the USS Texas in October 2013. I would like to game a late 1916 German destroyer raid on the British Dover barrage for about 6 players, who will not be familiar with Clash of Dreadnoughts.
Have other gamers played similar small-ship actions with CoD? What adaptations are recommended for handling destroyers and trawlers as individual ships instead of a flotilla?
Thank you

Just need to create a data card for each destroyer. You can do this by just dividing the existing destroyer data cards by 8 (which is the standard number of DD/flotilla in CoD).
If you're running an all destroyer game where each player controls 1 ship, I would suggest tripling or maybe even quadrupling the Hull Points of each destroyer just to make them last a little longer. CoD was designed with fleet actions in mind, so individual destroyers tend to go down pretty easily.

Played something similar last week, the Austro-Hungarian raid on the Otranto barrage. We found the Italian/French destroyer flotillas went down very very fast. We reran the action using a modification to the penetration dice: instead of using a D10 we used a dice the size closest to the gun diameter, ie a 4" gun used a D4, a 6" gun a D6, etc. Worked quite well. Regards, Trevor

Yeah originally I used multiple dice for the system, similar to what you suggest. That approach was dropped in favor of a single die for simplicty reasons. I do think the multiple die approach may be the best way to go from a mechanics standpoint though.
