Ahoy there! The Last Sea Lord here.
I didn’t see any suitable forum for introductions so I thought I’d post here. No doubt the Moderator will send out a harbour tug to tow me round to the correct berth if I’ve tied up at the wrong mooring.
I’ve been a wargamer for 40 years and have always dabbled in naval with a large collection of mainly WW2 1/3000 scale stuff which has never really produced much gaming due to lack of decent rules. However a year or so back one of the guys at the local club turned up with a set Naval Thunder RotB rules and ships for the Russo-Japanese war. After refighting the Battle of the Yellow Sea and Tushima a few times (the Mikasa blew up when I was the Japanese!) several members of the club started to put together 1/3000 scale fleets. So far we have Russian, Japanese, French, Italian and two British, the Mediterranean Fleet and China Station Squadron. So far Germany’s naval expansion has stalled on the slipways, the Great White Fleet is still making its mind which shade of, er white it should be, and there is no sign of Austria-Hungary realising yet that it actually has a coastline.
Assuming the time to be contemporaneous with the R-J war we have put together a “context” for world-wide naval conflict involving all the Great Powers. So far the Russians have blundered, guns blazing, into an Italian Fleet in the Med, annexed an island in the Aegean and fired on a British cruiser squadron. Meanwhile the Japanese and the French have clashed in the S China Sea over control of the island of Hainan. On the initiative of the local Admiral the British China Squadron intervened on behalf of the French. As a result a Franco-British task force is now on its way to the Far East to counter what is being viewed as blatant Japanese expansionism.
No one quite knows what will happen next. . .
