Anyone with a game group that meets regularly interested in playtesting this system?

I just signed up to this playtest via The Miniatures Page so I thought that I would stop by the forum and introduce myself, since I'm new to SDG. Reading through this thread I seem to be coming from the same direction as most other people in that while I'm all for straightforward rules, the Aeronef set from Wessex Games is a little bit too simplified for my liking. There are a surprising number of 'nef rulesets out there but that's no reason not to strive for something better and the tie-in with Brigade should make them much more appealing to gamers everywhere Dave

Just finished an awesome playtest on Sky Dreadnoughts. Super excited about how this game has turned out. Mainly just waiting on artwork now. Hoping to have this game out by the end of March. Especially since Leviathan's has apparently collapsed. . . I think there are a lot of people out there looking for a good flying battleship game.

Yeah, unfortunately got this to about a 90% state then had to turn my attention to finishing up other projects.
The years-overdue fleet expansion for Naval Thunder: Clash of Dreadnoughts should be out imminently. Hopefully followed shortly after by the long-overdue Colonial Battlefleet: Star's Reach.
Sky Dreadnoughts is in pretty good shape actually, so once those two are out the door maybe I can keep the streak going and finish it up. I have heard that with the release of Leviathans there's definitely a market of people looking for another alternative.

Thanks for the update Dread. Kudos for giving attention to your current games and fan base with those expansions. I haven't gotten into any of the pre-WWII NT, but I know I'll be interested in Star's Reach. Maybe having to wait a bit for Sky Dreadnoughts isn't a bad thing - might give Levaithans a chance to get some more minis out, and give people more time to realize they'd like some rule alternatives. -Tim

Yeah I feel like the market for Sky Dreadnoughts will only grow as people become disaffected with other flying dreadnoughts rule systems. It's really a pretty new genre all things considered.

Agreed. As I reread both NT and CB, I can see how a merger of these two games would really result in an awesome flying battleships game.
Just curious - is there going to be something like "tech trees" like there is in CB? I don't imagine it would be anywhere near as elaborate as CB - but there could be room for it for things like armour, max gun size, engine power etc.
Also, I know one thing that we always wanted for CB was a bit more guidance on how to pick - faction specific benefits. People love that stuff, but I know for some groups having to "mutually decide" can be a major hurdle.

No tech trees. I'm really just designing the game to accompany the existing range of miniatures from Brigade Models. Design-your-own rules will be included as well.
At this point I'm not expecting zeppelins to make the cut. Fighters is a maybe. Those two might comprise the supplement. We'll see how it goes.

will the rules be able to over lap with naval thunder by any chance? zepplins would also fit into the setting very well also as a cheap optaion for poorer country and shipping. fighter would be cool.

It's really being designed as a stand-alone game. Not really a Naval Thunder tie-in.

oh, bummer, it would have been a cool idea though and keeping the rules close so anyone could lick up one game know the other systems then.

Hey Dread,
Have you had a chance to make any progress?
Couple of questions: -Hex based or open map? -Understand the game will be stand alone - but how similar are the mechanics to Naval Thunder (because we like those mechanics) -are you going to have some super huge list of guns to use with the ship designer?
I really love the background and miniatures for Leviathans - the rules just leave me feel a bit wanting. Its not that the game doesn't have its complexities, but for me its pass the threshold of a little too much "game" focused and not enough "historical" focused. Not having separate to hit and penetration rolls is kind of the kicker for me.

It's been sitting on my hard drive about 85% done for quite a while. It's one of three major projects I want to get done this year. . . but it's already February and I haven't gotten out my big project from last year yet. I just don't have time to write like I used to. So, we'll just have to see how it goes.

@dread,
Ya, I hear ya. My time is pretty hooped these days too, and its only getting worse. On the plus side Leviathan's is moving along at a snails pace. They only have 6 different minis out right now, and no indication when they'll have more. Maybe by the time you get to putting Sky Dreadnoughts out CGL will actually have some more stuff to play with!
