But it won't be long until fleetbooks are out...

Yeah, really at this point the thing holding up Man vs. Machine & RotB2 is trying to get our hands on new good PDF creating/editing software.

Yeah, really at this point the thing holding up Man vs. Machine & RotB2 is trying to get our hands on new good PDF creating/editing software. What are you creating the books in?

Short list of wants: -More weapon options, D8s and perhaps D4s and D12s? -More weapon slots, 6 is nice, but maybe more on larger ships? -More weapon arc options, Port and Starboard are the two side hexes, but what if I only want one of those side hexes for a limited semi forward arc? -More fighter types (seems like this is already coming) -Ability to Pivot a ship, but maintain forward motion. -Ability to Roll a ship -Campaign rules, already working on some, mostly adaptation from my b5wars campaign rules. Though far less complicated.

-Ability to Pivot a ship, but maintain forward motion. I like this idea... bravo!

We're doing the layout in word, then converting to PDF. Get Acrobat Pro. You should be able to get an older version or a Student version on Amazon for less cash. It comes with a print driver to create PDFs from Word and then you can add TOC and links in Acrobat

If I recall correctly, if you guys care, student versions have the stipulation that they cannot be used for business purposes. However there are other options...
-Many free PDF print drivers available on the web. -If you have Office 2010 it has PDF 'save as' built in. -Install Ubuntu on a spare machine and use the freebie installed PDF print driver, either via opening the word doc in OpenOffice or it up as a network printer so you can 'print' to the Ubuntu PDF printer to generate your PDF.

Amazon doesn't seem to care who they sell to... -Many free PDF print drivers available on the web. -If you have Office 2010 it has PDF 'save as' built in. The Office PDF driver creates ungodly nasty PDF files. Don't use it. There are some good free PDF drivers but you still need an app to compress and optimize the PDF (flatten it and compress the bitmaps) as well as create a decent set of bookmarks. -Install Ubuntu on a spare machine and use the freebie installed PDF print driver, either via opening the word doc in OpenOffice or it up as a network printer so you can 'print' to the Ubuntu PDF printer to generate your PDF. That is serious overkill :-)

Overkill perhaps, but I've already got an Ubuntu server laying around and thus wasn't overkill for me.

Added more!

Another idea that's came up over in the thread for rules for khurasan miniatures' ships: Gunships, something bigger than fighters (and so not deployed in squadrons) but still small enough to be carried buy a carrier. An example being the millennium falcon, though I'm thinking something a little more purpose built for combat.

Again, I say, wait for the first fleetbook, it has nine (9) fight profiles, some could be more along the lines you're thinking.

C. J. Cherys Earth fleet have 'rider ships' on the capitals rather than inside. I read them as more like small destroyer size.

C. J. Cherys Earth fleet have 'rider ships' on the capitals rather than inside. I read them as more like small destroyer size. That's how I saw them. They're like "battleriders" from Traveller: without the need for bulky jump systems, you can cram in more/bigger weapons, maneuver drives, and reaction mass. Just pray your ride doesn't leave without you... or your visit could become permanent.

Actually, that's a great idea. Insted of the whole defining single fighter squadrons thing I currently do in the book, I can just create a new fighter role 'gunship' that covers all that.
