My gaming experince mostly revolves around historic gaming. I became involved with some of the old AH bookcase games at an early age along with ACW 15mm gaming (currently selling my collection).
Like many my age I was also involved in some of the Early D&D and AD&D, but not much else for fantasy gaming.
Over the years I fell in love with the Axis and Allies line of games and other treasures.
Some the the games that currently line the shelves of my game room include: Naval Thunder-of course Victory at Sea and AoD-Mostly for sceanrio reference now that I discovered NT Fire and Fury-hanging onto the rules in case I get the urge again AH Gettysburg-one of my early favorites AH Victory in the Pacific-Still my all time favorite AH War at Sea (Board game) a good companion to VitP AH Midway-Another early age favorite AH Bismark Axis and Allies board games -50th Anniversary-excellent if you can find a copy -Original Pacific -Guadalcanal Memoir 44 Battle cry (1999 ed) WoTC War at Sea-This is where my WWII NT fleets come from WoTC Axis and Allies Minis AP Great War at Sea and Second World War at sea-Great scenario material Wings of War (WWI and WWII) comes and goes in streaks, but a family favorite when in the mood Tide of Iron-Great WWII combat system for a board game. Star Wars Minis-Have not played in forever mostly my sons interest
I think that covers most of them that I still own. i know I am missing a few of the old AH games, but many have not seen the table in years.
Top ones right now that I have played in the past 6 months: Naval Thunder Wings of War WoTC War at Sea and AAM M44
So what games would we find on your game shelves?

Wow, I started with Airfix figures when I was about 12, at 14 I broke my leg and started playing AH bismarck and Jutland. I have played most GW games, but our heart is in historical gaming. We also play Wings of War WWI, Black Power, Field of Glory. We started as a group about 25 years ago with Johnny Reb and some Squard Leader.
On top right now: Colonial Battlefleet Starship Troopers and for Halloween-Ambush Z

Started with D&D as a kid. A friend introduced me to 40K Rouge Trader. My first spaceship game was GDW's Star Cruiser. I read some reviews of Full Thrust but just couldn't get it in NZ so I picked up Renegade Legion: Interceptor. Then the inlaws went to Scotland for a holiday and I got them to pick up FT which apart from a couple of years of Battlefleet Gothic remained my prefered spaceship game untill I got CBF this year. On the ground pounder games I dumped 3rd edition 40K for Combat Zone but have since discovered Ganesha Games so I've been playing most of those, they even got me into Napoleonics. The other genre I've added in the last 4 years is WWII dogfight with the free Mustangs rules.

The other genre I've added in the last 4 years is WWII dogfight with the free Mustangs rules. Not familiar with those rules. If you have the opportunity to give Wings of War a test fly I highly recomemend it. In the basic form you manuever cards around on any flat surface. Of course we all like Minis, so the produced an affordable line of pre-painted planes. Both the WWI and WWII versions can be very easy or a bit more complex depending on which optional rules you decide to add as your skill and understnading improve.

Yeah, WoW planes are nice and cheap considering their pre-painted. Also there are some decals and simple repainting instruction out there to make even more.

Wings of war is awesome. One of the few games I have ever played that I did not feel a need to 'fix'. We have just recently started collecting it.

I play 1/300 with Mustangs and as with spaceships there all scratchbuilt, the game I'd like to give a try would be Check your Six, but Mustangs works well and I'm saving my limited wargames budget for the CBF suplements.

A VERY good question afilter!! Where to begin? Back in about 1982 I was introduced to board wargaming, firstly SPI's Napoleon at Waterloo, then onto others (pretty much all SPI), my first and most remembered was Atlantic Wall (soon to be re-released by Decision Games)...ah good times!! I played my first few miniatures games in 1984 (Wargames Research Group WWII rules - I don't know which edition) - that was in 1/72nd scale - late European war, then in the late '80's I played a few modern ground games in 1/300th scale (Tabletop Miniatures rules I think?), and I had a massive 1/3000th Navwar collection (WW II and Contemporary), which I unfortunately disposed of a few years ago (Oh the horror!!!). I was also limited by the lack of opponents (Thank goodness now for the Interweb thingy!!). I did enjoy the Steel Panthers computer games as well. I also played a few FRPGs as well back then...Ah, the memories... What do I have now? Naval Thunder (of course!) (both Battleship Row and Bitter Rivals) Seekreig V General Quarters III Command at Sea (4th Ed) (with all the Atlantic Fleets modules) Bismarck and Bomb Alley. (Avalanche Press) (plus a few more on my wish list) Surface Battle Group 3.0 I also have a moderately large 1/6000th scale WWII fleet under construction.. most navies by the way - mainly BBs, BCs, CAs, CLs with a few CVs thrown in... with a few modern ships to scare the **** out of my opponent! :-) Anybody noticing a theme here??? I always have been very passionate about WW II naval ever since I read HMS Ulysses in the late '70's (then the Battle of the River Plate and various Bismarck books). I am gradually becoming interested in Starship battles (CB etc), ST & SW battles I have always enjoyed on the big screen... I also have SPI's DragonQuest (2nd ed) and Chaosium's Runequest (2nd Ed), and am planning on re acquiring Flying Buffalo's Tunnels and Trolls with various modules... In another genre, Wings of War looks VERY interesting...does anybody know of a distributor in NZ / Australia??

Did not mean for this thread to become a WoW discussion. Anyone that wants to find out more about WoW here is a great forum devoted to it. www.wingsofwar.org/forums/index.phpNot the official forum, but way more active. There are players from NZ on it as well. The nice thing is the game designer stops by frequently and shares information on upcoming projects as well. So back to the topic what else are people playing?

So back to the topic what else are people playing? Sadly, not much at the moment... the young one is taking much/most of my attentions. But my shelves are playing host to thirty years worth of collecting/playing games. Waiting on C&C Napoleonics and I'm looking to get into CB so I can put that pile of lead/pewter/plastic to work... and NT sounds like a keeper as well... I wonder if those Aeronef figs could work...?

Over the years I've played a small handful of things.
1. Warhammer 40k, yes, this was my first introduction to table top wargaming, back in 3rd edition if I remember correctly. Either way, didn't last long enough to see 4th edition.
2. Battlefleet Gothic, moved onto starships and BFG's fast gaming system was both entertaining and quick to learn, but GW's support for the product and general balance issues kept me from staying.
3. Babylon 5: ACTA, Mongooses ACTA came many years after BFG, enjoyable as it was B5, but at the same point it got old as each addition seemed to dramatically shift things.
4. Babylon 5 Wars. Ah, still to this day my absolute favorite. A little complicated yes, a little time consuming to play yes. It still has some issues with its rule set (in my opinion) but still an blast to play.
5. Colonial Battlefleet: This has taken ACTA's place for "fast" gameplay, but happily CBF is a little more robust to keep each game feeling fresh.
Oh, if you're counting it, Axis and Allies 1940 Global (Yes both the new Europe and Pacific boards put together). Only a mere 70" by 35". ;D

I would love to try 1940, but I cannot justify purchasing it as I was one of the lucky few to get a copy of Axis and Allies 50th Anniversary. Best edition I have ever played.

I picked up Pacific last year for $60, versus $100 retail and then this past august I picked up Europe for $65 versus $100. Amazon is great. I never played AA50, but AAG40 is something to behold. Will admit, even being a small force, having Italy as its own is nice.

I helped play test Scenarios for AH Squad Leader back in the day. They were for the ASL annuals???
Which reminds me, we also helped on Johnny Reb 2 when GDW bought it from John Hill who then got it back and put out JR3. Finally, the three of us who still game together worked on Planet Strom , the ground game for Legion of Steel.
