fatgit, We will want to see photos of your WTJ ships once you do get them. -- Jeff Of course! I ordered a handful of German armored & protected cruisers and a like assortment of Americans. And an American pre-dread battleship (Ohio).

In all probability, the Ohio's 12" guns will seriously overmatch the German 9.4" guns on their CAs.

As a first step into the range, I went with ships I found to be striking in one fashion or another. Minus the Ohio, the sides should be reasonably evenly matched. So long as I like what I receive... I can see a follow up order in my future.

Hey, even isn't always even. HMS *cough* Hood *cough* I presume, of course, that you are (for some reason) referring to the 1891 Pre-Dreadnought battleship HMS Hood. It was a modified "Royal Sovereign" class battleship and carried four 13.5" main guns, ten 6" guns, achieved a speed of 15.7 knots. She was decommissioned in 1911 and sunk in 1914 to provide protection against U-Boats at Portland Harbor. There aren't any other HMS Hoods of note, are there? -- Jeff

So what was the main technological advancement that created such a disparity in power between the 13.5" guns of the 1890s, and the 13.5" guns of WWI?

So what was the main technological advancement that created such a disparity in power between the 13.5" guns of the 1890s, and the 13.5" guns of WWI? Pre- WWI: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BL_13.5_inch_naval_gun_Mk_I_%E2%80%93_IVShell 1,250 pounds (570 kg)[1] Calibre 13.5-inch (342.9 mm) Muzzle velocity 2,016 feet per second (614 m/s)[2] Effective range 12,000 yards (11,000 m)[1] WWI: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BL_13.5_inch_Mk_V_naval_gunShell AP, HE 1,400 pounds (635.03 kg) (H); 1,250 pounds (566.99 kg) (L)[1] Calibre 13.5-inch (342.9 mm) Elevation 0° - 20° (naval); 0 - 40° (Railway) Muzzle velocity 2,582 feet per second (787 m/s) (L); 2,491 feet per second (759 m/s) (H) Maximum range 23,820 yards (21,780 m) at 20° (L); 23,740 yards (21,710 m) at 20° (H)Basically improved varient over the 1890 version with a great shell weight and increased velocity and range as range finders improved as well. Basically doubled the range and increased the hitting power over the earlier version. HTH,

Unless, of course, one were speaking of the the 1st Hood, launched in 1859 as Edgar. A 2nd-rate SoL (91 guns), she was renamed in 1860 (to honor Admiral Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood). Initially wooden hulled and sail-powered, but later fitted with a steam engine, she was decommissioned in 1888.

No need for apologies. Would rather a solid, consistent, well-reasoned supplement than one rushed into production.
Good luck with the RW issues.
