I hear you, but for some reson bigger always seems like a good idea, even if not practical.

John, how did you do those bases? Are they some kind of floor tile with a thin white wash?

Hi, I am VERY sorry I have not replied. I sorta drifted away on other projects. Anyway, to answer your question. I used precut wood from Home Depot. It's in 3-4 foot lenghts, IIRC. I believe it's poplar. I then cut them to the lengths I set for each class of ship. I then take wax paper and crumble it up. I cut it to the size of the base. I glue it to the base and let dry. Paint whatever shade of blue or blue green you like. then lightly drybrush withe. The wax paper makes the best ocean I have ever seen.
I have decided to try using a technique I saw posted here recently. I'll use this on my 1/2400 scale ships. Use 1/8" plexiglass. Lightly paint bow and aft wakes and done. If this works I may end up doing it with some of my 1/700 scale ships.
Again, sorry for the tardy reply.
Thanks,
John

Waxed paper, great idea! This is just the stuff we need around here to keep people coming back!

Hi, I just posted on another thread the results of my plexiglass experiment for my 1/2400 ships. It was a failure. I went ahead and knocked out around 30 more basswood bases and used wax paper on them for the 1/2400 ships. I'd only consider plexiglass for my 1/700 ships if at all now.
Thanks,
John
