I have been doing a bit of research and I amy get a couple more along with SMS Kaiser. The one thing I have learned in my reading about WWI is that squadrons tended to be comprised of entire classes of ships to aide in gunnery adjustment. Of course these GHQ models really bring out all the details.

One of the best all-around BBs the Germans designed. Stable gunnery platforms and tough nuts to crack... if a little under-gunned (nothing new for the HSF). More than an match for most contemporary RN BBs.

SMS Baden is sitting on my work bench right now. ope to debut here before the week is over. I mentioned the others because Bayern class was completed to late to see actual combat and there were only two completed.

Nice looking model. If you want the 1916 color scheme, it is in Warship Profile 37 SMS Konig. The turret tops are very dark grey with white air recognition circles on the superfiring turrets fore and aft turrets.

On a side note SMS Baden is moving along the docks and time dependent should be done in the next day or so I did pick up a SMS Kaiser.

Great job, so you didn't go with the dark turret tops and white air recognition circles on the fore and aft turrets? I try , but the white rings were difficult to get right.

Just did not have a good photo reference and was not aware of these markings as I am still learning. If you have a good pic I am not opposed to trying it. I did find this model of seydlitz: So does anyone know if these were used throughout the war or just a certain period? Would it be an accurate statement to say it was just the fore and aft turret closet to the superstructure for all German ships? As for making the circles I guess I would attempt to use a piece of styrene tubing similar to a small straw dipped in white paint and then applied like a stamp. It would be easy enough to modify current models if this works.

As in the picture above, I have only seen the circles on the fore and aft turrets. I can't say if they were used during the entire war, but I think/read somewhere they disappeared as air power became a factor???

If they were not for air recognition do you know what the purpose Was?

My sources refer to them as air recognition circles. So I guess the Zeppelins would know which ships were theirs. These circles were worn at Jutland until the end of the war. I have a pic of Markgraf in 1917 with the circles and a pic of Markgraf and Grosser Kurfurst with the circles after the Armistice. Usually it is just on one fore turret and one aft turret. However, one drawing I have shows the Derfflinger with the circles on all four turrets. Interestingly the superfiring turret circles are smaller than the main deck turrets. I will bring all these to the Con on Sunday. Have fun painting...
