Hey there, Even though I'm totally new to CFB, I'm an experienced and enthusiastic gamer. Part of my enthusiasm is manifest in my tendency to always redesign character sheets and other game material for everything I work on--and CFB is no exception. As I work on my own house-rules for my pet favorite sci-fi battle settings, I've made this new iteration of the SSD. It's still laid out in virtually the same manner as the standard SSD, but I felt that my gaming group (which is experienced in RPGs and Fantasy Flight Games' board games) would be better able to get into the rules set with something with a bit more visual impact, while still keeping everything straightforward. This card style also manages to shave a little height out of the standard SSD card, so you can now fit 4 cards to a page without losing any information or clarity of stats (I hope!). Anyways, let me know what you guys think, if you have any questions or tweaks, or whatever. If it is needed, I'll post a symbol key later, but right now I want to see if the icons are distinct enough for their functions to be apparent. Attachments:

I like the idea of icons in the text sdc. I added color to my text sdc headers but haven't posted that yet - will post when I get home tomorrow. I think I can figure out most of the icons, but is that a telephone for FCON?

Yeah, it's a phone with a small target reticle next to it--I figured it was symbolic of the whole 'calling in shots' from Fire Control. That was probably the biggest jump for the icon selections I'd made.
It's also worth noting that my full version of the card layout can be extended by four lines to have extra weapon slots. That's to accommodate a house-rule I'll be using that larger ships can double up their weapon slots 3-6, which each appropriate critical disabling both weapons associated with the spot. The expanded cards can still fit 3 to a page, even if each ship has 10 weapons.

Back from Colorado - missed the earthquake! Here is how my color-coded landscape set of SDCs came out, 6 to a page (but no icons). Attachments:

That's a good layout, and at 6 to a page, the gauntlet has been thrown down. Once I get a chance to print some samples of the standard SSD, my first version, and then yours, I think I'll try revising mine based on your layout. Being able to fit the average fleet onto a page would be great.

Here's my redesigned version of the ship card. It's still only 4 to a page, but I feel like that's the best you can do if you want to accommodate the ability to write-in stats. Typing them in is another matter, of course, but I don't want to resize the whole thing just for typing in. At least, not right now. I made the section colors essentially match up to your color code, Hamilton. Blue is the engines, Orange the defenses and systems (FC, Armor, etc), Green is damage control, Purple is shields, Red is armament, and Yellow is for notes. I removed the equipment field, figuring it would fit into the notes section as needed. I tried to make it colorful while still having enough white space to be light on ink expenditures and make it easy to write on. Thoughts? Comments? Attachments:

I like it - I think your icons are very simple and clean. I especially like the icon lineup for the weapons.
I think the fire control would be better served using just the targeting reticle. The other icons I had a bit of difficulty with what I take to be DC bonus (looks like a fire extinguisher, maybe?), and what I take to be a bridge hit (can't tell what it is under the damage icon).
I also agree that you need more room for handwritten entries; I hate cramped spaces.
Nice job!
