A few shots of some newly completed battleships. USS Washington USS South Dakota ...preparing to fire on the Kirishima at Guadalcanal on the night of November 14, 1942.

Very nicely done. The rust stains are a nice touch. And the maker of the models (GHQ for Washington & Superior for South Dakota?)

Thanks Shigure. They are both GHQ on Litko acrylic bases. I think the model is a 1943 representation of the South Dakota, but I wanted to use the South Dakota model instead of another in it's class. South Dakota was configured as a flagship and had only 8 dual 5 inch mounts instead of the 10 that the Alabama, Massachusetts and Indiana had.

I guess the low reflectance of the darker paint hid some of the finer details. Looking closer I can see the planking lines on the main deck. Camo scheme for the South Dakota is MS21 Sea Blue and for the Washington MS22 Graded System Navy Blue and Haze Gray?

Those ships look great. What did you use for the base? I love clear bases for my ships.

The bases are from Litko. 3mm thickness clear acrylic. Those pictured are 1 inch by 4 inches (that's 25mm by 100mm for you metric folks). Litko has a BaseMaker function on their website that allows you to choose a material and put in dimensions to get a quote. Their site is www.litko.net.

Both are very good looking. Is the South Dakota scheme meant for 2nd battle of Guadala Canal because it seems very dark.

Yes, they are both painted in their schemes for 2nd Guadalcanal. The blue is the same paint on both ships. The South Dakota may look darker because of the lighting.

Wow those are fantastic. Two of my favorite ships. Accurate camouflage and all. Those bases look fantastic, I think I will order a bunch if not too expensive.
What did you use for the white stripe and lettering?
What paints did you use?
Those are really a work of art.
Thanks

Thanks! I use Tamiya paints. For the labels I formatted an Excel spreadsheet with long narrow cells outlined in black, input all the ship names I wanted (and flag graphic) and then printed them out on an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of label paper. Then cut them out and stuck them on the bases.
