I've seen interesting and very detailed rules for specific characters on this forum, and while they look intruiguing, I'm interested in a simple option to do something very generic for fighter aces flying *with* a squadron.
I'm thinking of simply allowing a +n (where n is probably 1) to a single die in a squadron's dogfight. This +n is assigned to a specific die *after* the dice are rolled in a dogfight.
No earthly idea what to "charge" for these in terms of 'points.'

That sounds like a nice flavor bonus, but not really game-changing. Just give both sides an ace with those rules, maybe with auto-return into a new squadron if their original is destroyed.

After playing a few games of any rules, it seems there is always one squadron, ship, unit or figure stands out. This would be a nice way to reward them.

Tried it a bit, and it's stronger than it at first seems, as long as you allow selecting which die gets the bonus after the die roll/comparing with the opponents dice. Like many others, I play MVM with a BSG theme. It's easy to put a single Mk VII on a base with two Mk II's to represent Apollo, Starbuck, Kat, or one of the other handful able to handle a Mk VII without its fancy flight control software. Scar and the 'Laura', however, I see as specialized gunships and will probably work up rules for them unless I find some I lile already done up.

If you want to reduce the strength of the bonus, you could give the "Ace" a special die color, so that you can't choose which die to apply it to after results are generated.
If you want to make the ace more survivable, you could also rule that an "Ace" can be assigned vs. *any* enemy die roll, outside the normal highest-vs-highest matchup. That's actually a big benefit in itself, but would also allow you the option of matching up against a low roll so as to keep your ace alive.

I like the idea of "Hero's". I actually use a CAG Leopard-III dedicated fighter stand and the Cyborgs have an equivalent, I need to try it as a dice adder and also as a seperate but included plane. They cannot be destroyed while on their carrier as they are not assigned a hardpoint, but can be killed when deployed.
As for a Stealth fighter same thing except it's not for dogfighting its for anti-ship strikes and it uses a PGM that functions as a nuke, is jump capable and also cannot be destroyed on the carrier, it is stealthy. I have yet to try it but it exists in the campaign and nearly every human Carrier has as part of its inherent "airwing" a CAG fighter, a Stealth-fighter and a stand of Recon fighters. Nearly every Cyborg has as part of its "airwing" some Recon-Drones, EW-Reapers, Missile Reapers while the biggest and most capable carriers also have a particularly banged up looking Leader-Reaper.
