Hi guys,
last Friday we played a CoD game at my local wargameclub (Gruppo Ludico Aglianese, Italy). We have already played some games using NT rules and we were confident enough to build up a quite crowded encounter on North sea between british and german ships.
We used two forces of about 1500pt, and being limited by the number of available models some odd choice was inevitable (IE a predread was put in the same division of a Queen Elizabeth fast battleship).
The forces were:
GERMANS
- battleship division: Kaiserin (flagship), Ostfriesland
- battle cruisers division: Moltke, Von der Tann
- light cruisers division: Elbing, Leipzig
BRITISH
- battleship division: Queen Elizabeth (flagship), Ajax, King Edward VII
- single armored cruiser division: Good Hope
- light cruisers division: Aurora, Bristol, Waymouth
We played using the standard deployment (we decided not to use the advanced rules since we played with two mates that didn't knew the rule set) and we made 6 full turns that were enough for the brits to claim a decisive victory. The germans plan was to engage with the BC the enemy's light and armored cruisers; once destroyed the light ships, concentrate the BCs and the BBs on the British strong BB division. Unfortunately the british cruisers were placed very far from the german's BCs. So, changing the plan, the Germans tried to engage as soon as possible the british BB division with both BCs and BBs, concentrating their fire on the most dangerous opponent, the mighty QE. Well, the plan failed. The germans due to their gun's shorter range, tried to close quarter with the british ships, but they were cut in the process by the terrifying QE firepower. QE was able to sink two german major ships: Ostfriesland blew up on third turn after a 20 was scored as a critical result. Moltke was lost as it's hull point went under zero due to major damage made by the combined fire of Ajax and QE, that caused fires and flooding that immobilized the ship making it a static target for the british ships. Anyway it fought to the death even when the division flagship was transferred to VdT. The damage suffered by the british force consisted in significant damages on QE (it ended the game with just 40 hull point and with just two working main turrets) and on Good Hope.
Anyway, it was a funny game even if i was on the wrong side of the carnage! We all enjoyed the game that lasted about 3 hours.
Next time i'll try to tangle QE with swarms of DDs......
