For my 200th post, I thought that I would have a go at yet another (!) “never-was” class.
Actually, I'm quite surprised that no one has had a crack at it yet!
The usual disclaimers apply - these are always works in progress....
My sources include:
Conway's – All the World's Fighting Ships 1922 - 1946. (2006 reprint)
Conway's – All the World's Battleships 1906 to the Present. (1987)
Whitley – Battleships of WWII: An Illustrated Encyclopedia. (1998)
Breyer – Battleships and Battlecruisers, 1905 – 1970. (1974 reprint)
Groner – German Warships 1815 – 1945 Volume One: Major Surface Vessels. (1990)
Gibbons – The Complete Encyclopedia of Battleships and Battlecruisers. (1983)
Garzke & Dulin – Battleships: Axis & Neutral Battleships in World War II. (1990 reprint)
Campbell - Naval Weapons of World War II. (2007 reprint)

These ships would probably be the core of the proposed Z Plan fleet. However they would have used enough steel for a years' Tiger tank production...FOR EACH SHIP!!!
I don't think that it would be unreasonable to give it a decent AA fit out and radar...
Ships in Class: 'H', 'J', 'K', 'L', 'M', 'N'. (Only 'H' and 'J' were ever laid down.)
Some proposed names: Hindenberg, Friedrich der Grosse, Grossdeutschland, Ulrich Von Hutten, Gotz von Berlichingen. (See the Wikipedia article)
Ah well, here we go... (but there is so much more that I could add...)
Proposed stats:
H – 1939 Class Fast Battleship (7+)
Hull: 222 (55453 t)
Speed: 8
Armour: 20
SAV: 8
AA / ASW: 12 / 0

Secondary Weapons: 12 x 5.9”, 16 x 4.1/65
Primary Data:

Arcs: 2 x [2] F / P / S
2 x [2] A / P / S

Secondary Data:

Arcs: 2 x [3] P (5.9”)
2 x [3] S (5.9”)

Any constructive criticism will be warmly welcomed...If I am wrong, I would rather know sooner than later...If you can do better, that's great – I'm always open to new sources of information!!
I have decreased the AA factor from an initial value of 20, down to 14, then 12....after feedback....(see below)
