As you may have heard, we are currently partnering with another company to release the campaign system for Colonial Battlefleet.
This other company is seeking some playtesters and people very familiar with Colonial Battlefleet to provide input on the system and how it will work with CBF.
If helping shape the campaign system is something that would be interesting to you, please send me your email address, and I will pass it along. Thanks!

Is the "other company" still the one you were involved with before?

Ummmm. . . maybe? LOL Not sure what you're referring to. They're going to be announcing soon, so will be able to share at that time. Does it make a difference?

Only that if it was the one that was mentioned on a much earlier thread, then I already playtested it for a different tactical rules set.

I've sent an email around the spaceship wargamers in Auckland (some of them meet regularly for games at my place) asking if I can get enough support from them to get a play test group going, hopefully we'll be in.

I've been pouring through all sorts of options, including Victory By Any Means. There are just so many things that complicate and grind a potential campaign into a spreadsheet fest. I'll send over my email. I'm a pretty good editor as well

Hello there :-)
Was there ever any further news on this? It was almost a year ago that there was an announcement that there was going to be announcement "soon". Was it VBAM? If so, I have mixed feelings about that as the current version just seems to lack anything remotely approaching out of the box playability. There's an awful lot for the prospective campaigners to do and get their heads around just to get things started.
I've been involved or run several (usually) Star Trek themed campaigns over the previous 20 years, some of them running for multiple years, and me and my players have distilled what we're looking for in a decent system down to...
1. Turn based.
2. Referee moderated game. Well, I mean, it doesn't have to have a referee but most of the requirements below pretty much dictate that one is necessary.
3. Fully PB(E)M compatible. No requirement for players to meet face to face at all and, if they do, it is happy circumstance.
4. No player decisions required during the turn. Once orders are submitted for the turn, that's it from the players until they've had the results and are ready to submit their next orders. The ref/moderator should be able to resolve everything based on the turn's orders without having to go back to the players.
5. Capability to play blind. It's not strictly necessary but it always adds a little frisson and makes PB(E)M easier.
6. An abstract strategic level combat resolution system to resolve battles that would be too dull or one-sided to play out on the tabletop (or simply because we are feeling lazy and want to keep the campaign moving). As per 4, it should require no player decisions to avoid breaking up and slowing down the flow.

Well VBAM is the partner. I think the system is quite beefy. . . it's almost a game in and of itself. After it comes out, I might release a document with suggested way to make it run "leaner" if people are just looking for a backdrop for tactical battles only.

I find that raw VBAM is so generic, so flavourless, and has so many options that by the time you get to the end of the rulebook you are scratching your head and thinking, "I have literally no idea where to start and how this all hangs together." How close are you to some kind of release on this one do you think? Weeks, months, years?

They are telling me this year sometime. If that pans out, any follow up I do would probably be next year.

I have used VBAM before, do you know if they need playtesters?

Remember, this post started just about a year ago, and they were to announce very soon...

A little bird told me they will be announcing something I would be interested in tomorrow (Monday 7/13/2015) after I posted a question on the VBAM site about if anyone had used VBAM with Colonial Battle Fleet
