My son and I just finished our first game (Komandorski Islands) and really enjoyed it, but a few questions came up that we weren't sure about:
1) When a gun is destroyed, the rules say remove a gun from the same firing arc, but how is it selected? Does the attacker or defender choose? Because which gun is removed will obviously have an effect on which other firing arcs are available to the ship in subsequent shooting phases. For example, if a gun is destroyed in the port side arc, and the options are to destroy either a F/P/S, P/S, or R/P/S gun, the particular gun removed would either affect one (S) or two (F/S, R/S) other firing arcs.
2) When a ship of the same class is destroyed in the gun shooting phase (a cruiser is sunk in the cruiser shooting phase) but it hasn't resolved its gun attacks yet, I assume that it is still allowed to shoot? Similarly, if it isn't sunk, but one of its guns is destroyed, I assume that gun can stll participate in an attack that phase?
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been answered somewhere else.

Damage resolution is simultaneous within each combat step. So call cruisers get to shoot, regardless of what happens to them.
Unless stated otherwise, the defender gets to choose the weapon destroyed, subject to the firing arc limitation.

Well, my group has always assigned numbers to each turret, and rolled for which gun is destroyed. I guess I might of over looked it in the rules, but tthat is how we do it.
