What-Khan 2016 was this past weekend in Rockford, IL. Mike, Dan and I came together to host two Naval Thunder scenarios (Battle of Cape Spartivento and Guadalcanal). The games were well received by those who played. You can find much of the action on my blog recap of What-Khan. What-Khan 2016Enjoy! Aaron

Thanks for running the games at What-Khan Aaron. My wife and I enjoyed both the Friday night and Saturday morning games very much. As you mentioned in your blog, both scenarios played out pretty realistic. The Guadalcanal scenario was very exciting not only because the result was opposite that of the historical battle, but because the way it developed was entirely believable and proved exactly what can happen when the Japanese stick to their doctrine and engage with their long lances as intended. The result of getting both Washington and South Dakota with torpedoes in the game as well as all four U.S. destroyers for the cost of only four DDs and a light cruiser made for a very exciting game indeed (unless you were the American BB commander...it kind of sucked to be him). My wife thoroughly enjoyed conning the Ayanami into the point of decision, putting three torps into Washington and sinking an American DD with gunfire before Ayanami went down.
Regards,
Don Gilmore

It looks like a great con. Nice Zulu game. We played/play WoG some and also CY6! but we "found" Luftwaffe 46 at Historicon and started playing it. It is great for cons as you don't write or even pick orders, you just move when it's your turn. Also, people can handle 4-12 planes easy. They have other products in the blue sky range that are more historical and are working on a Korean war version.

I certainly enjoyed the Friday night game, commanding the Renown and Ramillies. Damn though, three engine room hits and a major flooding result changes you from a Greyhound to a Pug in a hurry. ;-) I should have been steering evasively while I had the chance. Nice job running the game, you kept it flowing right along. Come to TundraCon in January and play in my WWI Italians vs. Austro-Hungarian game.

Nice write ups Aaron! Thanks for doing that and posting some pictures. I wanted to add that it also helped for the Naval Thunder games that we had a good group of participants that got along well. Quite a few of them had experience with the rules too! Dan

Dan, you and Mike did a great job getting ready. It was nice for once to just show up and help.

Looks like a great time at the con. Thanks for running NT!
Why did they change the name of the Con?

Why did they change the name of the Con? Legalities after the former organizer had to back out. It was Rock Con for many years and now it will go back next year.
