I've been re-reading the rules again (though have yet to play my first game - if it weren't for those meddling kids!) - and I'm confused if Tech Level 5 grants a bonus to the strike fighter anymore, since the base strike fighter has a strength 3 attack now?
In other words, does TL5 in fighters only give you the Recon asset now?
I know Dreadnought's aware of the discrepancy but I'm not sure what's been done with it...
Oh - and another point - when selecting Fusion Fighter Torps, is there a limit to the number of torpedoes carried by the mothership (other than mass available, of course)? The Shipyard gives me a red "error" box when loading more FFT's than hull size, though it eventually lets me do it.
Thanks in advance!

I think its a +1 to attack fighters so they will go to +4 (I think that +2 was the origional value and it was lifted in the update). All equipment is limited to hull size including FFTs but like all rules you can override it if your opponents agree.

No the base strike fighter 3 damage is an errata item that will be fixed in the next update. It will be adjusted back to 2 with the +1 coming at TL 5.
That said, if you want your fighters to be super-scary, you could just leave it at that. Every ship in your universe had better have some good shields though.

Thanks for clarifying Harry!
In my experience with other games the effectiveness of aircraft are inversely proportional with how paranoid everyone in your gaming group is with them. Aircraft are usually something you can counter if you invest the "points" into it - of course the danger of that is if you protect yourself well against them, and your opponent doesn't bother to bring any, you've just wasted a tonne of points!

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Str. 4 fighters would be very scary indeed - and I'm happy with the extra reason to take TL 5 in fighters. I'm still looking forward to getting a game in to test out all these theories flying through my head.

A lot like real life isn't it? Ken Yes except in my world I'd have to replace aircraft with toddlers and points with animal crackers

One of the best things about CB is the fighters feel about right. If you let a bunch get to you they will hurt you even at a 2 damage.

Yes, in mass they are deadly. The largest game I have played so far had 91 Cylon fighter units against 43 Colonial then add the 100+ missiles-Very scary.

I'm curious how much having scads of fighters on the table slows down the game. Does a fighter-heavy game tend to last twice as long (for example)? I can't imagine moving 90 fighters around the map, not to mention handling all that dogfighting!

Yes, but we have played that way for so long that without fighters the game seems to move to fast, not having enough to do! Still with all those fighters, missles, and dog fights, we can play six turns in three-four hours.

I'm still new here, can someone clear up fighters for me?
Is there any real different between them design wise? IE is one players Tech Level 2 interceptors any different than my Tech Level 2 interceptors?
I'm guessing there are no 'design' aspects to fighters.

Currently an interceptor is an interceptor. However there will be more options in future fleet books. Man vs. Machine alone contains 9 fighter profiles, of widely different purposes and capabilities.
