I am really enjoying the whole Naval Thunder experience from RJW to WWII. The biggest thing that appeals to me is it is basically ready to go with all the player aids and ship data provided. I lack the time to do all the reseach that other rules sets require to build useable ship data. The printable Ship data files provided with NT make the game for me. With that said I would like to see NT expand. First I would like to see CoD expand to include other nations that were not primary combatants, but around for What if scenarios in WWI(USN, Austria, Turkey, Japan etc). In addition, I would like to see it expanded even further to include the interwar years and the grand "what if" the "Washington Naval Treaty" did not happen and the BB arms race continued. This has been the subject of many naval game campaigns I have participated in in the past. This is also one of the reasons the Avalanche Press "Great War at Sea" games appeal to me. All the US War plan games provide endless possible scenarios for "what if" conflicts of the 1920-30s. This was the primary era when the BB still ruled the seas and what NT is really geared toward, surface combat. If NT released an expansion that mirrored the AP games that would be the ideal for me. As a player I could use the AP games to generate operational sceanrios and NT to fight out the tactical battles. I am sure it takes considerable time to develop the ship data, but I for one would not even require a full blown expansion. Give me the Ship Data files and maybe a few rules for early naval air and I would be very happy. Of course finish RoTB2 first.

Of course finish RoTB2 first. Aaron, was that another hint? One of the great attractions of the Pre-Dreadnought era is that it was ALL "surface combat" . . . not only that, but with very limited communications . . . no radio; and wireless only in limited use at the very end of the period. There will be many wonderful "what if" conflicts available once we have RotB2 stats available to us. Most of the major naval powers had substantial forces in the South Pacific / Asian area. They joined forces during the Boxer Rebellion, but there were some interesting possibilities during the Spanish American War of Germany or others aiding the Spanish. But we will have to wait until "before Christmas" to explore any such scenarios. -- Jeff (yes, that was another hint, wasn't it?)

For example... how about a Kaiserliche Marine vs. U.S. Navy confrontation in the South Pacific...?

We could call such a version the "Rise of the Cherrytrees" as many of the super-battleships planned were cancelled due the Washington Naval treaty. For some reason these ships were know as Cherrytrees.

Wouldn't they become cherry blossoms if used in combat?

Or the Caribean...many possibilities Good point. USA v. UK conflict over the soon-to-be Panama Canal (1904-1914) is a possibility... or over American intervention in the Panamanian revolt against Columbia.

I've not read it, but I understand that the novel "1901" by Robert Conroy is about a German-American War in said year, prompted by German claims to Cuba and the Philippines (won by the US in the Spanish-American War). I know that this "alternate history" novel has had mixed reviews (all plot and little character development), but the basic premise might be worth checking out. theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=110357(I also seem to recall reading about a "close encounter" in the South Pacific that almost developed into a shooting war. It was some island that the US grabbed and I seem to recall that it was either Germany or Great Britain that nearly fought them for it . . . but I'm not sure of the details.) -- Jeff

Sounds like something James Bradley wrote about in Flyboys: A True Story of Courage. I think it was Chichi-jima (Peel Island), but I may be misremembering...
