I'm pretty fired up for it! A friend and I have finally got our fleets together and at least somewhat painted, and my girlfriend (she's amazing) designed and painted a full size starmat complete with 1.5" hexes for us to game on.
Our factions (The hyper evolved sharks of the Carcharodon Republic and the ultra-pious Ecclesia) are fleshed out, and the ship designs are rolling out of the shipyard at a breakneck pace.
Should be a fun weekend... I just wanted to share my enthusiasm with everyone.

I played Napalm today for the first time, and we will hopefully have Picturs incoming soon!
I cannot stress how much I enjoyed the game and the system, and while we were slow going at first, it was an amazingly close game. My Unholy Cult of the Ecclesia started strongly, sending out a massive line of fighters and asgms, which my opponent took in stride, losing two small escorts early. Once his vessels closed to range though, his phazers, and heavy disrupters quickly minced several of my escorts and finally my main Carrier. Thankfully a support carrier was in range to prevent most of my fighters from becoming helpless. The two amazing turns of the day saw my Battleship 'Hammer of God' Napalms battleship with his Broadside of SDT, obliterating his shields in one salvo and doing a massive 40+ hull dmg subsequently with Heavy Disrupters and Plasma Torp.
The last turn of the game (my wife was getting ready to scream in boredom) saw Napalm down to two capital ships, his Battlecruiser Majestic, and the Heavy cruiser Titan. He pulled them together for one final strike on my battleship, which I kindly obliged by scooting directly into their path. I had chosen tactical and so the salvos began. AND NO!~ I CANNOT BE~ A BRIDGE CRITICAL~ CURSE THE GODS WHO MADE THIS GAME FOR I CANNOT SMITE THEE WILL THE UNHOLY MIGHT OF GOD~!
So amazingly the turn ended with minor dmg from my remaining ships and both fleets, sitting, staring, waiting for the madness to start again. Fun times were had and we cannot stress enough that we enjoyed the game. Both of us are already dreaming up new ships, new strategies, and how to incorporate SDT on EVERY SHIP!!
I kid..I kid.

The Carcharodon Republic has suffered it's first defeat, but the war is only beginning!! A few thoughts on the game: First, I love the ruleset. Tactical without being bogged down with math (other than that pesky shield regen. Defeated by simple math!), smooth even with loads of missiles and fighters, and balanced. It's great. Second, Spatial Disruption Torpedos are ridiculous. I totally underestimated the amount of damage that can be done quickly. I had a heavily defended 1000 ton battleship lose an entire shield arc and nearly 80 points of hull destroyed in one turn. Fluff-wise, it's pretty great though. I assume that two new civilizations met for the first time (we played the Meeting Engagement scenario) and both sides had a few surprises for the other. And third, I can't wait to play again! Here's a picture I took during the match, showing the awesome handpainted starmat. Attachments:

Toastar, was that rapiers, katanas or claymores you wished to use for the challenge?
We are now in danger of hijacking a very nice battle report but I've been toaster on TMP for the last 6 years and on SCN for almost as long. I suggest we start tag teaming against anoying posts and see how confused people get.

She's amazingly crafty and did it for me as a christmas gift. She's also loves to paint minis and will likely be playing with us in our SECOND game of CBF.

Haha, that's me. I have a knack for choosing to make gifts that take me forever to finish. But with the help of my scrapbooking tools and a couple of f words, this one came together pretty nicely, if I do say so myself. I can't wait to play the game. I have a band of pirate space ships that I want to finish painting and get onto that mat! I love it with the planets on it, you guys did an awesome job on those!! ;D

Did you guys play in a game I ran at a con? No but that sounds like a great time. Despite being longtime wargamers, we've all just recently gotten into the starship gaming scene.
