I'm sure I'll feel pretty stupid when this is answered but for now I'm stuck. In MvM Raptors and Heavy Raiders require two dogfight hits to be killed and damage doesn't accumulate on them. If they are alone and only get one dogfight die how can they be defeated twice at the same go?
For example, 6 Vipers jump a heavy raider. Vipers get 6 dice and the raider gets one, matching that roll against the highest viper roll. Raider loses and takes one hit but isn't killed since two are needed to bag it. Looks like another flight of vipers needs to jump on to finish it off. Is that right?
Also, I'm assuming one flak hit takes the heavies down like any other fighter.

The second hit was a last minute change, but no it wouldn't have to be attacked by a second group. The second group starts it over. The rule says "take two successful kills in the same dogfight to eliminate one gunship" In your example, if the gunship rolled a 7 and the six fighter rolled 9, 8, 5,4 2, 1, the two die that beat the score count as two hits eliminating the gunship.
I play it that flak takes it down in one hit, but....hadn't really thought about the two hit rule when using flak. ;D
Note: I modified my answer after I went back and reread

That's how I played it: two hits rolled in the same attack kill the gunship. Since a single hit would be ignored, attacking with a second group should start the process over again. Gotta watch those last-minute changes.
