Hey everyone. I've been working on background and ship designs for my homegrown faction, the spacefaring shark-like race of the Carcharodon Republic. I thought posting some of those SSD's here would help to get some good feedback as well as help keep me on task from a faction design standpoint. The first design is the Titan Class Heavy Cruiser. This also happens to be the only fully painted ship in my fleet thus far. As a Defender, it's focused on wading into the thick of fire with a supporting group of screening destroyers, relying on it's powerful shielding and armor to allow it to win a battle of attrition. It bears moderately powerful weaponry to make it a worthy distraction. Attachments:

Now that certainly is a pretty looking ship. The only comment on the design that pops out is on the ASGM's. If the enemy is packing PD equivalent to what you've got then 1 ASGM launcher is not going to get very far. My experience, and that of quite a few others, is that you need either big numbers of ASGM's to overwhelm the PD, or else not waste space on them.

Yeah, you only have a single launcher, and only 2 missiles in the magazine. That's really not going to do much for you.
If you don't want to make more space for missile armament, try cluster missiles instead for anti-fighter work since there is no-point defense to get through that way.

That's a very good point and I've actually been noticing that in the few games I've played so far... thanks for the tip! I think I'll swap it out for another torpedo launcher. Fits the goal of the ship better anyway.

I like your faction idea! I happen to really like sharks, and may have to copy your faction. The others have given their opinions on the design, and I appreciate it as a new owner of CBF.
Looking forward to seeing more ships!
PS - what is your source for the minis of this faction?

PS - what is your source for the minis of this faction? Looks like Cold Navy, the Terran faction... Ravenstar is making them now. Here's his email & blog address: ravenstarstudios@charter.net ravenstarstudios.blogspot.com/

They are indeed the Terran faction of the Cold Navy models put out by Ravenstar Studios. I felt they looked sort of sharklike, and I've always had an interest in the Roman Empire, so it was a sort of natural progression. I'll be posting a few more designs in the next day or two, and I'm hoping to have more ships completed this weekend.

This is my most recent design. The Vengeance class Battlecruiser is a bit of a deviation for me. I tend to try and fit the biggest guns a class can support, and it usually leaves me with few numbers of bigger weapons. This ship was more of an effort to mount lots of longer range, slightly weaker guns and a large amount of fire control, in hopes of remaining at middle range beyond my close in fighters, picking away at enemy targets. The turbo lasers fire first to strip the enemy shields, leaving the hull for the disruptors. Attachments:

This looks good! You might try a RDF version of the ship as an up-grade. The extra turning and speed could help.

Yeah I've definitely been making some changes to my design thought process. In fact, I've been kicking around the idea of a missile carrier, as I'm slowly trying to break myself of wanting to use so many fighters. How effective would you project a larger ship with 3 ASGM launchers, each firing 4 missiles, with enough magazine and fire control for 4 rounds of continuous firing?
