Okay, just a taste of what Dread has been saying about long range missile fire. Colonials had three Battlestars-884 mass and two 640 mass ships armed with fighters and 16 rail guns and 8 Hvy rail guns. Cylons weighted in with five ships-three 336 ton and two 548ers all armed with fighters and 102 ASGMs. Cylons started firing the first turn at range 28 hexes laying down 20 missiles a turn. On turn three we caught the 884 ship with three missiles, a 640 with seven and the finally ship...wait for it 13 missile strikes! The 884 took minor damage-15 points, one 640s took 35 the second one 80 blowing it to smithereens. We followed up by board the remaining 640 and capturing it. ;D Stay tuned... Stay turned, Harry I'll follow up with you ASAP. The 884 shot 6 hvy rail guns once at 11 hexes for 12 points of damage. That was as close as they got. Wow, I get it and have to respect missiles. How I'm up next with the Colonials, wonder how I can get close without being trashed by the missiles....

Was that using 6 or 12 point rules with the missiles?

Warchariot:
Were the Cylons in an "echelon" formation? I've been thinking that missile-heavy ships would want to arrange their missiles (in 6-point movement) so they are staggered row by row, in a diagonal line. This way they cover both the rows they're pointed down and by turning they can also "sweep" rows to the side.
Not all the missiles will be able to target all the same hexes, but every salvo has a better chance of finding something to hit.

Yes, I've been thinking about angling off before firing and letting the missile come in at obliquely to enemy advance rather than straight up. That might give slightly better engagement opportunties. BTW, how effective have other found using RDF ships as ECM 'scrubbers'? We've found them to be extremely effective and in some cases, the missiles were moved such as to 'run away' from these ships.

We also tried to shoot to force ships into lanes where we could fire on turn 2 to keep the Colonials from be able to avoid the missiles. A line of pursue if you will much like a tackler chasing a ball carrier in football.
