On Frinday 8 April I attended Little Wars in ST Charles, IL. One of the games I signed up for was NT RoTB "Prelude to Tsushima" .
The week prior to the event I found out that this game was going to be cancelled as the original organizer was not going to be able to run it as scheduled.
I contacted the organizers and volunteered to step in and run the event since I own all the ships and was looking forward to playing.
"Prelude to Tsushima" is basically the Tsushima OoB less all the Armored cruisers and Battleships. It was scheduled to be a train up for the main Tsushima event that was scheduled for Saturday AM.
I arrived at the venue around 6PM and with some help had everything set up and ready to go by the 7PM start time. We had a total of 6 players including Mike and I. The other 4 were new to NT RotB. After a brief explaination of the rules we were able to get started. We even had another player join us part way through for a total of 7.
Initial deployements
Russian Line:

IJN:

First couple turns were spent getting the new players familiar with the turn order and closing the range and manuerving for position:

The Russians quickly realized they were hopelessly outnumbered. When outnumbered the obvious strategy is to divide you forces.
The Rusians deployed the DD Flotilla against one IJN line and sent the cruisers after the other two while they braced to take their first round of fire.

The gunnery was not that effective so the lines continued to close until in effective Torp range.

At close range the damage quickly started to accumulate. Unfortunately for the outnumbered Russians most of it accumulated for them.

The brave DD Flotilla pressed the attack and soon was in position to deal out some damage to the IJN via guns and torps.

The IJN sailors proved to be effective fishermen, unfortunately someone forgot to tell them these were the kind of fish you did not want to catch.

Finally the Russian cruisers started to dish out some damage. Unfortunately they were still receiving as much as the gave.

Amazingly the DD Flotilla was able to avoid mass casualties and dealt out another round of the deadly fish before they were out of forward and Port torps.

The hapless Svetlana was left to deal with an entire IJN battle line including the old Chinese battleship Chin Yen. Fortunately for the Russian skipper the IJN Line's gunnery proved uneffective and the Svetlana was able to survive long enough to deal some damage. Svetlana survived two full turns despite being reduced to a burning wreck(1 hull point remaining) and finally sucumbed to flooding.

Finally, the two lines closed to point blank range. The Russians were able to deal some healthy damage to the IJN force.

In the end the IJN were just too much for the outnumbered Russian force. The game was called when only two Russian cruisers and a reduced flotilla were left.
Two IJN cruisers paid the ultimately sacrafice and more than one would be spending time in dry dock recovering from this day.
Overall a great game despite being quite lopsided. I think it is safe to say that 4 new players are now Naval Thunder fans.
