Hi all
My knowledge of the Russo-Japanese war is quite limited and I would like to learn more about this period. So I was wondering if anyone can suggest what books to read?
I was considering The Russo-Japanese naval war 1905 Vol 1 & 2 by Piotr Olender.
Regards, Zoranno

Then I saved you a bunch of money that you can spend on ship models instead.

Sorry to give this thread life again, but the battleships.ru website is gorgeous! I have just ordered $55 worth of Russians from PS and i am loving the 3d drawings on that site. Rather than start a new thread on colours, i'll ask here.. the Russians seem to be a whitish/light grey hull (thinking white with P3 armour wash), decks a light wood (tan?). Turrest etc back to grey/steel. Then to finish pale yellow funnels with black tops? Am i far away? I will start a new thread elsewhere if required to do so, but it is kinda relevant to that website suggested by Jeff

Greg, I've got two links for you. First take a look at the WTJ website. In the right hand (larger) column under "Information Links" they have "Predreadnought Paint Guide" . . . click on it: www.wtj.com/store/However, if you wish to me very correct, not all ships were painted the same colors. Certainly the Baltic Fleet was painted differently than those of the Pacific Squadrons . . . and even there not all ships were painted in the same manner. I believe that the author of "Col. Campbell's Shipyard" did a fair amount of research on both RJW fleets and has nicely painted images of all of them on his blog. You will need to go back a ways to get into his RJW painting, which starts in early October, 2010: colcampbell-shipyard.blogspot.com/I hope that these help. -- Jeff

Yes i did mean Panzerscliffe, and i love them! Got them in about a week to the UK, so nice speedy delivery.
Thanks for the links Jeff. Finding painting guides for this period is way harder than i thought it would be!!!!

Hi,
I don't know if you are still looking for books on the Russo-Japanese War but I like THE TIDE AT SUNRISE. It give a very detailed account of the war, it's causes and both the land and sea campaigns. I have read it at least three times. You can find copies on ebay.
The Polish Series on the war is pretty good, (Russo-Japanese War Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Maritime series) it's fill with lots excellent photographs and some very interesting stats.
But a better buy is the Osprey book in their DUEL series, Japanese Battleship vs. Russian Battleship.
Amazon has several other titles that I am not familiar with but look very promising and come highly recommended.
I hope this helps.
