If a ship launches three missiles in the same hex, must the three missiles travel around the board together or can you split them off from each other?
Besides following the turn rule and number of hexes moved rule for missiles, can the launching player move them in any direction he or she chooses (ie, I didnt see any rule where the missile had to be moved so that the target stayed within the forward arc of the missile or that the missile had to take the shortest route to the target)?

Using the normal missile movement rules the three missiles in question do not have to stay together as they run around the game board.
When you launch missiles there may be a target in your mind but not in the missile mind. Only when a missile enters the hex of a ship will that ship become it's target, until that time the missile is in hunting mode and has not "found" a target yet.

That's how I've been playing - I stack and unstack missiles at will as I move them around the board herding sheep.
EDIT - to clarify, I make sure I don't violate turn or movement rules when I stack/unstack - I usually make the change at the start or end of missile movement.

OK. So I have to think of the missiles as hunting rather than homing.

By golly I think he's got it!
Remember the missile fight song.
"A Hunting we shall go..." "A Hunting we shall go..." "Hi Ho O'Cheerio, A Hunting we shall go..."
