For these examples assume all squadrons are full strength (6 fighters)
1) I've got a single six fighter squadron being attacked by six enemy squadrons. All six of the attacking squadrons choose to initiate a dogfight with the one defending squadron instead of opting for some wingman bonuses . The defending squadron gets to roll "defense" dice against each of the six attacking squadrons and potentially, although unlikely, have the ability to kill all 36 of the attacking fighters. Doesn't this seem a bit strong for a single game turn where normally a single squadron has the max ability of killing just six fighters.
2) We lined up five squadrons in a single row and attacked them with eight squadrons, slightly wrapping around both ends of the five hex line. The five squadrons were on the defensive therefore they each to provide wingman bonuses. As in #1 could help #2, #2 could help #3, #3 could help #4, #4 could help #5, and poor #5 could not get any wingman help...correct? Or can a single squadron who is not initiating a dogfight provide a Wingman +1 to all adjacent friendly squadrons?

1. Technically true. You'll find that never happens in practice. But one fighter squadron will occasionally survive attacks by multiple enemy squadrons. A heroic defense. That's why we roll dice.
2. Correct. You can only provide the bonus once and it applies only to 1 squadron.
