Hi all! Does a ship need an FC to launch fighters? I cant find anything that indicates it but wanted to make sure.
Thanks!

Haven't used them yet? When building a fleet, think flak battires.

We had 6 squadrons of Fighters, half Int and half Strike in the last game and they didnt really impress :/ They are definitely support for the larger ships, but since they can't 'gang up' on shield (prolly a good thing), all they seemed to do was tax the recharge rate for a while (until they were whittled down).
A full squadron of strike fighters is going to do at most, 12 points of damage to shields. And that's if none are shot down in the ship fire phase and none are knocked down by PD (we didnt even use Flak batteries). You can achieve that level of firepower with many other weapon systems that arent quite as 'fragile'.
They ARE good for scrubbing small fry, but again, kill them isnt really a difficulty that is not a capability that we really place too high of a value on though.
Dont get me wrong, they dont feel 'wrong' or anything and I actually prefer them being support to being the equivalent of SFB's horridly broken fighters. But I didnt think that they were enough of a nuisance to really want to plan against them in my builds. The odd Grapeshot, SD Torps, and PD seemed adequate for our small scale battle (900 points).

Well 3 squadrons of strike fighters isn't very many. If you get 4 or 5 squadrons around a single target, that ship is gonna be in a world of hurt by the second turn of that unless it's able to shoot down a bunch of them. Interceptors can attack ships but aren't worth much when they do. Back them up w a ship from the battle line or more fighters armed w fusion torps and you are going to killify something!

When you get swarms of fighters is when Flak comes into it's owe. Of course fusion torps fighters don't have to worry about Flak.

BTW last game we had 40 Cylon fighter groups to only 32 for the Colonials. The majority were interceptors, but we had enough strike fighters to finish off a Battlestar. ;D
