Sunday I hosted Colonial Battlefleet at our local game store (Area 51 in Grapevine TX) and had seven players show up with ships and designed fleets using United Alliance or Corporate Worlds. The game was set for 1780 points for the UA players and 1958 points for the CW players. I had prepared two different fleet designs for the UA faction and one fleet design for the CW faction, turns out only one player other than myself needed my designs, which is a good thing as it is showing our group is learning how to use the spreadsheet.
So we setup four tables and played four one on one games. The shortest game only took about 1.5 hours, the longest game took about 3.0 hours. Only one player made use of the Flagship gets a free interceptor squadron, and he was facing one of two players who brought fighters. His opponent had brought two interceptors and three strike fighter squadrons. The one other player who brought fighters had not gotten the word that fighters in Colonial Battlefleet are not the kick butt fighters of WWII but more simply a shield reducer before main guns shoot. He was more than disappointed.
Everyone (except our fighter guy) had a great time. Two of the battles went down to the very last few hull points. Sadly, it does not look like anyone brought or used a camera so we have no pictures.
I can only give the blow by blow after action of my battle, which unfortunately was against the fellow who brought almost all fighters to the battle, thus it was not much of a battle. My force was 1xBBB(5xHeavy Phazers, 3xHeavy Phazers, 5xHeavy Disruptor's, 3xIon Cannons) and 3xCADs (2xHeavy Phazers, 2xHeavy Disruptor's, 2xHeavy Phazers, 2xHeavy Disruptor's). My opponent had 1xBBC (6+Interceptors and 6+Strike Fighters), 1xBC? and then four or five DDs. None of my ships had Flak Batteries and only one P Def each, but I still basically ignored the fighters, my CAD as defenders had 72 points of shield regeneration, and my BBB just had shields too big to care.
I concentrated upon his BC as it became clear that none of the rest of his fleet would be able to damage any of my ships. It only took two turns of shooting at the BC to kill it. His small DD or CLs were each carrying one or two ASGM but only one firing tube so there was no real missile threat. We stopped our game after his BC was destroyed.
The group as very pleased with the game and cannot wait until the next game. Hopefully that will be soon and someone will both bring and use a camera.
