Hi seadogs,
I'm about to buy some Vallejo paints to paint up my GHQ WWII Jap & USA ships primarily for Guadalcanal.
Can anyone suggest the colour schemes for the Jap ships using Vallejo paints, and the Vallejo colours to use for the USA ships?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers, Captain Corcoran

Are you using airbrush or regular paints?

I use the airbrush paints sorry so not really sure I can help.
My general suggestions would be to get a mid grey for the Japanese, drybrush with a very light grey or even a white, just lightly to pick out detail and lighten the base colour slightly, and then wash with a nice light black wash like Games Workshop Nuln Oil. Just wash lightly as you can always add another layer of wash but can't take it off if you go too dark. I just wash until I get the shade of grey I like and the drybrushed highlights still show through the wash nicely to show detail. Perhaps Model Colour 154 or 155 might be a nice base to start from.
For the Americans, I'm assuming Measure 21-22, a nice light mid-blue, then lightly dry brushed with a light blue. Perhaps something like Model Colour 56 would be a nice start and then drybrush to lighten it from there. Finally wash with a blue wash, again Games Workshop do a nice blue wash. I also wash the decks with black to give them the dark blue look of US decks.
I love the Vallejo paints but haven't ever used the Model Colour range for my navies, I use the Model Air range, so all this is just a suggestion sorry, no first hand reccomendations. GHQ ships look particulalry nice with washes as it runs into all the little detail like the deck planking.
