The fun of this game starts with design...but not of your ships, oh no! You have to build your custom faction first!
Presuming you use the "20 point build" recommended on p.78 of the rules, what do you like, and why?
For my first faction, I went with this: Anti-Matter: 4 Conventional: 5 Fighter: 3 Laser: 2 Orbital: 3 Quantum: 3
My arguments were, maneuvering is SO key...I believe that Speed is Life! I wanted a really high Max-Delta rating, and being able to have Battlecruisers built as RDF seemed like a really good idea. The cost savings on points of Delta is nice.
I like heavy cannon weapons, so getting some Heavy Railguns seemed like a good idea. Their shorter range is a little offset by my more maneuverable ships, and I can combine missiles with them to help close the distance.
Only Lvl 2 in Fighters allow Carriers, but I suppose Im not making the most of this by not having Strike Fighters. I could probably drop this down at least 1...but Interceptors are a nice deterent.
I went Laser 2 for the shields. P DEF is already covered by the Conventional weapons, and having at least 1 Defender in a battleline seemed important.
Orbital 3: I dont tend to build massive ships, so 884 is plenty big.
Quantum 3 allows for Scout.
So...Im a little vanilla across the board, but this seems like a decent balanced approach.
What do YOU think rocks the house?

I like telling stories so I figure out the factions background first then buy tech to suit that.
