Hi all, just purchased the rules and started reading through them, and had a question regarding exactly how fusion torps fired by T5 fighters are resolved.
The way I understand it from reading the weapon description, fusion torps don't have to go through PD, but can be blocked by shields. If that's the case, then does every torp I get in base contact with an enemy ship hit without a roll? If the shields are down it would roll for penetration as a normal missile?
I'm looking at doing a fighter heavy fleet as I've always loved carriers, and I'm curious how the torp mechanic works. Thanks for your help!

My understanding of the rules:
Fighter based fusion torps are direct fire weapons, just like any normal fusion torp launcher on a ship.
They get a 1d6 attack die, with no modifiers, and have to roll = or greater the range to the target.
If they hit, the do damage and get penetrations just like any other DF weapon.
I *THINK* that if you're firing from 1 hex you can still be interdicted by PD and/or flak, but thats against the fighters, not against the torps.
Also, remember that fusion torps can do regular crits, not just fighter crits...

Yep that pretty much sums it up. Remember that rolls of 1 with direct fire weapons are auto misses regardless of range.

Thanks guys. After I read kashre's excellent summary I realized that all of the torpedo weapons are direct fire, and that makes sense.
