Great looking ships and he gives a little history on each fleet/squadron. Maybe, I missed it, but did he post any AAR's anywhere?

I like the labels on these with the matching water color.

Yeah, I agree. The black lettering doesn't seem to take away from the effect.

Thanks for this post....I currently have 12 on order....this is very informational and inspiring to build both fleets. I am curious how he will do DDs....The rules indicate one base per flotilla.

Afilter, That will be interesting to me too; but remember that he is using some "home grown" rules (Not NT: RotB) . . . still I really appreciate his ship photos . . . and have 18 more Panzerschiffe's currently on order myself (I already have the "big six" for each side of the Battle of the Yellow Sea -- as see on the link below). jeffsnavy.blogspot.com/2010/07/first-painting-of-panzerschiffes.html-- Jeff

Once I get the first 12 done I will see where I want to go. The reference material is great especially with the PS model numbers which will make future orders really easy. So what did you decide to add to the big 12? I was plannimg to get the 7 ships for Battle of Ulsan next.

First a thanks to Bluebear Jeff for informing y'all about my efforts and me about this group. I have completed all the Russian and Japanese ships that I have been able to identify as being directly involved in the two August 1904 battles -- Yellow Sea and Ulsan -- as well as the possible "early" reinforcements from the Baltic Fleet that were in the Red Sea and at Djibouti at the start of the war. I will host a recreation of the Battle of the Yellow Sea for my wargames group on Saturday, Nov 6 using a variant of a rule set one of our members developed for WW2 naval games which was then modified by another group member for his "Remember the Maine" game.
As far as destroyers, I've decided to group 3 or 4 destroyers on a 2" (50mm) square base. These will either be a Japanese division or part of a Russian flotilla. They will attack and take losses as a unit rather than as individual ships like the battleships and cruisers. Since destroyers were relatively ineffective against full-strength combatants, I'm presuming that they will be used to harry and sink any stragglers from the opposing battle lines. But we'll see. Sometimes my fellow wargamers don't do what one expects them to do. :^)
Later,
Jim

Reason being that if you ever decide to make the transition to NT your models will be ready. Your blog is an excellent resource that I will go back to several times as I expand my Russo-Japanese forces. Thanks for sharing.

Jim,
Welcome, my friend. Actually as I recall, the NT rules simply ask that "Flotilla" bases be "at least as large" as Battleship bases . . . they can be larger.

afilter,
I also ordered the Ulsan ships as well as a few protected cruisers present at Yellow Sea, some DDs and TBs and some Merchant Ships.
However, inspired by Jim's organizational photos, I will probably "fill out" to something similar with my next order.

Two bits of news . . . First, Col. Campbell has added even more painted RJW Japanese to his painted fleet. Photos and backgrounds at: colcampbell-shipyard.blogspot.com/Also, on Friday I got some 27 Panzerschiffe RJW ships from said manufacturer . . . and while there are no photos yet, they do have some paint on them . . . well they warships do; but I haven't tackled the merchantmen yet except to prime them: jeffsnavy.blogspot.com/-- Jeff
