On December 16, 1914, a Germany force of 4 battlecruisers, an armored cruiser, 4 light cruisers and 18 destroyers sailed for the English coast to carry out a raid intended to bring out a small British response. The Germans would be "chased" by the British force into the waiting arms of the rest of the High Seas Fleet waiting off Dogger Bank and be destroyed. So what happened? bad weather, miss opportunities, a small destroy fight. but....a great set of what ifs. Each side just missed each other several times, the High seas Fleet turned back to soon, and British send more forces then the Germans thought they would. I'm planning a Dogger Bank like fight this weekend as one of the possibilities in 1250 scale. I'll write it up with pictures and will do a couple of others based on what could have happened. That is if everyone is well this weekend.

This was a missed opportunity in the larger sense too. The Scarborough raid was quite effective as a PR blow to the RN. Repeated raids could have forced a defensive posture that might have let the High Seas Fleet out a little more. But. . . lack of aggressiveness was the problem with the German leadership the whole time.

Look forward to your AAR.
I recently read some of the history of these raids in my Battle cruiser book I was brushing up on.
We really enjoyed playing Dogger Bank.
Note: I wonder if this thread should be moved to the CoD forum.
