Do you use a standard size ship base for all your NT ships or do you change it the ship base depending on the ship? Up unitl now I have been using some standard 1"x3" metal bases I found at the LGS. I do not base my WWII ships as I use my 1/1800 WoTC War at Sea models and they work fine with out bases. Since WoTC does not make any models for earlier periods I have been using a combination Panzerschiffe, GHQ and Viking Forge 1/2400 models and basing them on the medal bases. With the exception of a couple of the WWI Battle Cruisers all the ships fit nicely on the metal bases with the ships name and national flag. The issue I am having is the further I go back in time the smaller the models are getting. Since DDs are handled as a flotilla with a couple models on a base it has not been too much of an issue and the 1"x3" bases do not look too big. Now as I am starting my Spanish American War fleets I have noticed that a few of the light cruisers and gunboats are tiny. Some are hal the size of a WWI DD. My thought is to give up the idea of keeping all the bases standard size and pick out some smaller ones for these ships. Some samples:WWIRJW:SPAN-AM War:Thoughts?

Those bases and ships look really good. I ordered my bases from Litko and they are clear acrylic so I got three different sizes depending on the size of the ship. I prefer standardization whenever possible but I didn't want to spend a lot, so I picked three sizes that would fit as many ships as possible. I don't think having all the bases be the same size really matters in NT as the measurements are either from the back of the base or from tower to tower.
On anther note, where did you find the little flags for your bases? I have to make a bunch of nametags with flags and can't find much of anything online.

It is a matter of taste. We have always fitted the bases, but still use about three set sizes.

I stopped by LGS and picked up some 3/4" x11/2" bases for the smaller ships.

Hey Guys! now that I've posted the SAVO ships you can see that I am using Woodsies and Jumbo woodsies that I buy at Hobby Lobby or Michaels the ovals are the only ones that I use. Unfortunately they only come in Assorted shapes (Circles, Ovals and Teardrops) I am thinking of painting up some Evasive Manuver markers or Torpedo spread markers with the rounds and teardrops. BTW- The ovals give me enough space for the labels and they can be smoothly rotated against a ruler.
