Hey All
this is what I have come up with for the Alsace class battleship variant 3. It's a bit of a beast and would have made a nasty impact on any of the Axis ships put against it.
MN Alsace – Fast Battleship (Type 3: 12 x 15” gun version)
Hull: 180 Speed: 8 FC: STD AV: 21 SAV: 7 AA/ASW: 7/0 Move Step: Battleship Shoot Step: Battleship To Hit: 7+
Main Battery Layout: Size Guns/Turret #Turrets Arc of Fire 15”/45 4 2 F/P/S 15”/45 4 1 A/P/S
Secondary Battery Layout: Size Guns/Turret #Turrets Arc of Fire 6”/55 3 1 F/P/S 6”/55 3 2 A/P/S 3.9”/45 2 6 P 3.9”/45 2 6 S
Gun Data: Size S M L X Pen Dmg 15”/45 19 38 57 76 13 10 6”/55 13 26 39 52 4 3 3.9”/45 7 14 21 28 1 2
Aircraft: 1 x Recon, 1 x Flt Ops.
Notes: The hull points are again higher than the previous two versions as the displacement of this variant was expected to be significantly higher with measurements for the ship being similar to an Iowa. The armour on this version was slightly higher so I have raised the AV. The AA is slightly higher as well as this variant was drawn up with more dual purpose 3.9" twin turrets than the other two variants. The number is still fairly low as the guns themselves were not that good in the AA role.
Anyway enjoy. I plan on battering a Littorio or two with this bad boy, maybe even having a go at Force H as part of a Vichy French force.

As I don't think the French had a very efficient HA (high-angle) director system your assumption is probably correct. What tonnage did you use for displacement?

Good work Martin! One question - what are you using for references? I'm not wanting to be picky - I just want to see pictures! (And if they are in books...then I'm going to have to buy more books!! As if I didn't have enough already....)

Shigure- Yes everything I've read suggested the French AA was generally pretty poor and they never really had a chance to get better until overhauled by the US so I figured I wouldn't be a million miles away. I used 45000 tonnage for this variant, which was only the expected on paper displacement so in all likelyhood it would have been higher.
Flurophil- I mainly used websites and a mates book on French Battleships byWayne Scarpaci, this had a lot of info on the battleships. Wikipedia wasn't bad but sections contradicted each other so you have to be careful.

Cheers Martin, I don't like to go to Wikipedia too much myself...and there are a couple of books on Amazon which are on my list that you may like... French Battleships 1922 - 1956 by John Jordan, and Garzke & Duilin's Allied Battleships of WWII (which is prohibitively expensive!). Thanks for the link to Wayne Scarpaci - there are a few books of his that I was not aware of...
