I use to game ACW in 15mm mostly Fire and Fury. Several years ago I sold off my armies as my painitng had improved to a level that I was no longer satisfied with what I owned. My children where young at the time and I did not have an active play group anymore so I figured I would rebuild some day if I decided to get back into the hobby. Well that day has come. I recently discovere that Fire and Fury released a new version Regimental Fire and Fury. All the reviews looked very positive as the game designer spent over 8 years playtesting the new version. I picked up a copy lat weekend and WOW! After reading the rules once this is the ACW game I have been looking for all along. I will even go as far as saying t is the Naval Thunder or ACW gaming. I discoved 10mm minis have become more popular and decided to pick some up. My plan is to build a couple brigades worth of troops for each side along with Arty. I was hoping to have a few done in time for "Little Wars", but painting 10mm soldiers does not go as ships for me. So far I have a lone regiment and battery of Arty done. Here is a link for Fire and Fury: www.fireandfury.com/products/desc_rff.shtmlBest part is my sons are also eager to play once I get enough troops ready to field a force large enough for a skirmish. Just wondering is anyone else plays ACW or RFF specifically and if you have any painting tips I am all ears.

Love ACW and have played for years. First Johnny Reb I-III and some F&F. I also picked up the new Regimental Fire and Fury about a month ago, but haven't played yet. I just finished a Zulu game of Black Powder about an hour ago, got stomped by the Zulus. Hightide of the British

Larry, Awesome pic! I would love to see some of your ACW stuff for ideas. What scale are you using? I aquired some ACW 10mm figures and have about 300 primed and ready for painting. My only issue is lack of time. This is what I have completed so far. Union Battery: Union Supply Wagon: 6th Wisconisn Infanty with General Gibbon: All together with a penny for size comparison: My goal is to have 8-10 regiments per side(About 2 Brigades per side) along with Arty and the the needed markers.

The picture above is28mm. I have old 15mm ACW in a case somewhere around here. We haven't done ACW in 15-20 years. It was what started us gaming together. Well...that and WWI naval. Here's one more for the Zulus:

Making progress... After seeing the pics I went back and reworked a few things on the way I base and flock so they are looking better IMO. Additionally I attended "Little Wars" last weekend. In the Flea Market I discovered a box of pre-painted ACW 10mm un-based. Exactly what I was looking for and at a good price. After a bit of negotiations the price becmae one I could not turn down so I aquired over 700 infantry and more cannons than I will ever need. As a result this week I have been busy basing touching up and painting artillery crews, limbers and commanders to form a nice size Union and Confederate force. What is pictured above equates to more than two Brigades for each side plus 3 full Batteries for the Union and one for the Confederates. More Arty is coming for the Rebels, just need to get a few more crews and limbers finished. I will then do a few more touch ups like coor coding hats for regiments and clearcoating everyting to protect them. Additionally, I have another 300 figs that I hired out the painting on so i will end up wih a full Division plus for each side which is more than I origianlly planned on. :8) The other figs should be ready to pick up by mid week, so hoping next weekend to have them based and ready for a couple of skirmishes with the long weekend.

Painting hint for Confederates . . . use a grey spray primer to undercoat them, then do flesh, weapons and s few details and they're done (for wargaming distances).
We used this trick many years ago with 15mm troops for a fellow gamer who couldn't paint . . . and they looked fine from across the table. Of course it helps to mix in some odd-colored pants, shirts and slouch hats and to use a few different shades of grey on some of the figures just to get that slightly irregular look . . . but REMEMBER, most details aren't visible from three feet.

A friend of mine, Doug King, who lives in Seattle has a blog of his 6mm ACW, here is the link, I think you will find he is doing some very interesting things with painting, basing, and terrain. douglasgking3002.wordpress.com/Bubba Cleese

Thanks! I had used felt in the past, but I will try his road method. I have seen similar products in the past at cons, but they charge and arm and a leg. I am usually a do it myself kind a guy anyway. Here are a few more current pics of my armies. I am up to 8 Brigades total (4 for each side):

Any the army just grows and grows. Women can call them toys all they want, but the the big war comes we get to stand behind our wall of lead and survive. Bubba Cleese
