We played again last night; a scenario with a British force working up a Nowrwegian force to destroy any shipping in the harbour.
Now, there are some circumstances to consider here:
1) We used cm as soace was restricted. With hindsight all pretty much agreed this made a mess of things, in particular short ranges
2) The forces were altered just before the game as a couple of extra players wanted to join in. However the relative ship strengths added were 330 to the Germans and 130 to the Brits, a massive swing in their favour.
But once thing we found, torpedos on German destroyers were lethal. If we played it right then 3 destroyers in the flotilla can fire all their torpedos in one go to P or S, so 5 each, for a total of 15 attaks
The Germans had the Moltke and an S class flotilla with 5 destroyers vs the Bellorophon, the Drake, Gloucester, Glasgow and 2 mine sweepers.
Tacticaly the British fluffed it a fair bit, but we figured even if the LCs screen the BB and AC they'd get wasted by the Moltke and the destroyers get in real close which they did anyway and fire off all their shots. Needing a mere 6 to hit they scored 8 hits and the Bellephoron was no more. Game over man. The Drake had nothing to hurt the Germans with so we called it a night.
It just seemed rather extreme and rather sudden that they could bring to the fight so much fire power.
We also wondered about the arcs for the torpedos on DD as there were no F/A arcs.
Any thoughts anyone?
