Some ships have three types of weapons. do the third size still get the secondaries +2 bonus for rapid fire. I was told no as they were not secondaries?

Yes, they do.
You will note guns are divided into two batteries, Main & Secondary.
Anything that is in that 'Secondary' battery counts as a secondary and same logic applies for the 'Main' battery.
Main and seconday were terms used to classify gun size in the game, regardless of relationship to the ship they were mounted on. Thus, even tertiary batteries would still be 'secondaries' because they are smaller then 8".

I know what happened there, when I mentioned about VaS:AoD having tertiary weapons and that the British navy did not in NT:CoD, you replied: "The Germans do." I suspect you meant you did have smaller weapons bit I assumed you meant you had a third level of weapon other than small secondary. Hence, when we went down the list of factors to apply the 'secondary' rapid fire bonus was witheld Steve
