As I said earlier, I picked up a bunch of minis from the recent Brigade sale. I got their SAC and PacFed factions, and I've painted up a CA in each to figure out my color scheme. Here's a closeup of my bases - weighted with a pair of 7/8" washers like the Star Ranger tutorial, but with magnets instead of barrel clasps. The minis can spin on the base, but I'm going to paint a direction arrow on them. Here are the two CAs on the stands: And here are the CAs dismounted showing their keel magnets: Feedback welcome (before I get any more painted!) UPDATE: Well, I guess I can't link to a picasa image? I'll just do them as attachments. And I guess that will have to be on subsequent posts because I can't add an attachment as a modify action!

Yep good stuff. I like the washer idea for the stands.

I updated my bases by adding a 1/4" length of heat shrink tubing to give some extra hold to the magnet. I also added a short piece of yellow sticker to indicate facing since the ships can spin on the base while moving them around. Attachments:

Here is my Blue fleet. I still have fighters to do, plus I ordered some of the new SAC ships. Attachments:

And the Red fleet. I got an extra of one ship that had a miscast engine pod, so I converted it to an over-under engine scheme and will probably use it as a scout. Attachments:

Here they are posed on a single megahex sheet. I guess a felt or fabric hex mat is going to be my next purchase! Attachments:

Very nice!
I'm a big fan of the Hotz Mats space mats. You can get custom hex sizes and the nebula backgrounds look fantastic.
