I have been getting most of my pre-dreads from Panzerschiffe. Shapeways has become real popular on another forum as an alternative to get items that are rare because the ships are part of a CMG (Axis and Allies War at Sea). Someone just posted that the bought a USS New York. Not a bad looking model. Not sure on the price though.

I made one attempt to purchase some ships from Shapeways a few months ago, right before they were going to increase pricing. My order came back as 'unprintable' (even though others had successfully ordered the same ships). They offered me credit towards another order, but now my credit wouldn't pay for what I wanted. I have heard that they are also changing (or have already changed) rules on selling ships in bundles/fleets to obtain additional setup fees and frown on making items with sprues, but I haven't followed closely since my aborted purchase. SCN has a page for Shapeways (albeit for starships not wet navy), but there is a lot of discussion there about Shapeways as a company, shipping and order delays, print quality of different materials, failed printings, etc. www.star-ranger.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=42&sid=36b1240e9205d91685189d4d6debb5c4

I've purchased starships, but not wet navy. Sometimes it is good, sometimes not. I have some ventors for space that do a nice job if anyone is looking.

Been offering minis through Shapeways as well, 1/4800, to supplement CinC's range of detailed ships (and traditionally done at that ) The surface finish isn't consistent to say the least, I've even/always receive an item where one of the ships (usually at the extreme end) with half of it (lengthwise) glassy smooth... Customer service is great though. Two main problems IMO though: time/opportunities lost (from ordering to actual production; only then will it be rejected if unlucky)... and expensive shipping

I only ordered one thing from shapeways and was very disappointed with the quality. I just don't think it's worth risking an order when it's a crapshoot what you'll get.

I have not ordered yet, but I am thinking alot like you. Maybe when the perfect the offerrings a bit more. In fact if you look close at the New York posted above I later noticed it only has one gun per turret instead of two.
