The more I think about it, I think 6" guns should be included as a primary gun. In the recent Spartivento game, the 6" cruisers were able to mass getting up to 48 shots against a single ship at no penalties. I can see this becoming a standard tactic because of the game mechanics but I don't believe this was historically correct. Your thoughts?

I have often though about this especially where they are the main batteries for a ship. I believe the reason stated was simplicity. IMO, very easy to houserules especially if it is soley a cruiser action.

My thinking on the 6" shells is that the rate of fire is so high, overconcentration matters less because you can almost walk the shells onto the target.

I think that for cruisers and above that any 6 or 8 guns would be main battery as they are probably being plotted in some sort of director and fire control plot. These guns probably should be fired as main battery guns. As to walking in shells to the target, that was not a good practice with any sort of mount that would have a director. In my personal experience of shooting a 5"38 mount you still spotted your salvos until you had ranged in and then you would fire for effect. /Jeff
