What-Khan 2016 was this past weekend in Rockford, IL. Mike, Dan and I came together to host two Naval Thunder scenarios (Battle of Cape Spartivento and Guadalcanal). The games were well received by those who played. You can find much of the action on my blog recap of What-Khan. What-Khan 2016Enjoy! Aaron

Now that I am making progress on my fleets again it is time to make plans for battle. I found a copy of Avalanche Press 1898 which I will put to use designing scenarios. Blog Post

I did see those. Price is not that significant. Would like to see side my side. May need to just order a test.

Does anyone have a reliable discount source for GHQ WWI?
I believe I use to use WAR WEB, but that link no longer works. I can find them locally for about $2 off, but thought they were even better online, but not finding a good source.
TIA,

AH, not familiar with those rules. My air games have been Wings of Glory and CY6. Thought about using the simple mechanics from War at Sea or even looking back at AH Midway, Ideally, I would like to keep it in the framework of NT and use the data cards as they are with some tweaks to movement or ranges such as giving aircraft movement on the table to line up attacks. Will do some play testing as let you know what we come up with.

How many use the air rules as written?
One of the biggest and maybe only negatives for NT that I have heard is the AIR rules. I will admit to being one that has raised that concern in the past myself.
IMO NT is the best for surface actions and all the scenarios historical/hypotheticals we have played have not included air. In fact the majority of the games I have played in the past are Pre-WWII so air power is not even and issue.
My WWII model collection is all the 1/1800 War at Sea CMG models that WotC did a few years ago. War at Sea (WAS) is a very simple beer and pretzel which is historical themed game with air power as a key component. So when I encourage WAS players to give NT a try their chief concern is they do not get to play with all their toys (carriers and planes).
I just re-read the Air rules and they seem to make a lot of sense and are fairly simple. In reality though they are more of a paper dice rolling drill as opposed to getting models on the table especially for the two pre-battle sorties. The one during battle airstrike could be fun, but still does not really get the carrier models involved.
Just curios if any one has come up with some creative air rules with NT that translate well without adding a bunch of new stats.
My initial thought is to let airpower come in on any turn the player desires, but each flight can only be used once per game and resolve the air attacks rules as written. Also have the planes come from a specific direction/Attack angle on the turn prior to attacking (maybe give them movement) so the 12" range AA is more specific to model location of the planes.
Thoughts/ideas?

That's just odd that they had to change the name, and then to pick what-khan is even odder. Yeah, don't fully understand the new name. Apparently could not use the old one due to pending financial obligations associated with it. They hope to clear that up in the future so it can be called ROCKCON again.

Mark your calendars! 7-8-9 NOV 2014 If you are familiar with ROCKCON it is back just with a new name...What-Khan. Apparently due to legal issues with the previous backer the name had to change this year. it is the same venue, same format and same organizers as ROCKCON, just a different name. One of the organizers was at our gaming group last night and I will definitely have a Bolt Action Tournament this year on Saturday 8 November. Because of the name change they are worried that people who have attended in the past may miss it. They are looking for more games to be registered. www.what-khan.com/Not sure I will be able to run NT this year, but it was well attended last year if someone if available to put on a game.

Thanks, I really like the WaS minis as they filled a void when I did not have time to paint. Now I am going back through and starting to customize some of them as well as add additional models that were never made from Shapeways.
