Well, I was home sick a couple days. As a result everything is ready and packed for ROCKCON to include pre-labeling the mats for easy scenario set uo. We plan to run multiple small scenarios during the Saturday afternoon event to teach new players (Denmark Strait, River Pate and Empress Augusta Bay) with two battles running at the same time. Since each scenario should only take about an hour they can we can reset that area with a new scenario and keep going as I will have two tables. Should be a great opportuity for new players to learn as well as old swabies to slug it out.
Saturday night will be a slightly modified version of the Alternate history Pearl Harbor event I ran at NAVCON for up to 10 players.
Hope to see some familiar faces there.

Anyone else Going? This is a great convention. I will be running tow Naval Thunder events and there is a multitude of other games on the event schedule. This event always has one of the best Silent Auction events. Many local gamers clear out thier shelves and bring their unwanted treasures to this event. Last year I scored 7 War at Sea Base set booster for $50. ;D www.nobleminis.com/RockconWP/Hope to see some of you there.

So I downloaded the updated card printing tool and have run into an issue. I can no longer set the print area as it does not allow me to highlight any cell other than the the one where you enter the SSID.
Anyway to unlock it? I prefer to print 2 ships per sheet without the extra stuff showing up as I can then cut them inhalf and they fit perfectly on my small clipboards.
I understand having them locked so people do not accidentally mess up the cells, but any way to get an un locked version of one that only has 1 ship per page without the other cells?
TIA,

Thanks all, For the Pearl Harbor scenario I think I will leave it the same way we did for NAVCON as a special sceanrio rule for "Early Radar" 50% chance to spot and if the flag ship spots the other ships can roll with +1. Seemed to work pretty well.
I have adjusted the data cards for Nevada and Oklahoma for Guns.

Does this optional rule apply to all british shells, main battery and secondary ones or only main battery? As I read the optional rule p35-36 it makes no mention of Main or secondary just states "the shells used by the British". I believe the intent is to reflect poor manufacturing (break up on impact) and is meant to apply to all shells that have to roll for penetration. Of course like any rule you can house rule it to mean only Mains/secondaries for a particular scenario as long as you are consistent. HTH,

My guess is they are mid-war stats, because of the repairs. But that wouldn't explain Arizona unless it was done for what ifs. That might explain the radar, but the main guns arrangement never changed.

During our scenario last weekend we noticed that the gun data for the Nevada/Oklahoma is off. Basically it shows 4 3 gun main turrets. In actuality Nevada only had a total of ten 14" guns not 12 the fore and aft turrets should be 3 barrles, but but the other two should be two guns. My guess it Pennsylvania class stats were transposed.
Just thought I would bring it up for a future update.
Also I noticed the majority of U.S ships have Radar to include Arizona and Oklahoma. Since the scenario I was running was Dec 8th 1941 I did not think this was quite right. IIRC West Virginia had an early form of radar, but I do not recall the rest having it. How was it determined to give ships radar? Are these all Mid War stats? Just curious as I hope to do some more early war or Pre-war alternate history. As it was I gave them very unreliable Radar so they had to roll 5 or less for it to work.

It is time I finally return my attention to my Pre-dread fleets. Never one to do things half way I jumped back in whole heatedly and placed a huge order with PS to round out my USN and Spanish fleets. I already have the complete fleets for RUSSO-Japanese war as well a Span-AM war....now it is time to venture into hypotheticals. I ordered the rest of the USN ships that are available in RotB 2 along with the Spanish and Germans that would be available in 1906. My long time plan has been to stage some large scale SPAN-AM battles where the Spanish are not completely outnumbered. In addition I hope to pit my USN vs Japanese in 1905-1906 and USN vs. Germans in a conflict over the Philippines. New USN ships: New Spanish and German Ships: All are already primed and ready for paint, but I doubt any of these will be ready for ROCKCON. Little Wars is not out of the question though. Mike has been pestering to play with my SPAN-AM stuff since I completed it two years ago, but the historical battles are so lopsided. This should give us some options. More to come.......

I will definitely keep an eye out. I already have the US, Spanish and now a few Germans primed and on the work bench ( over 50 in all) so that should keep me busy for a little while. :-)

Looking forward to see your results especially if they are adding more. My latest huge order from Panzerschiffe arrived yesterday when I came home from NAVCON. I ordered the balance of the US and Spanish fleets along with some Germans from RotB2. I plan to do some hypothetical SPAN AM war stuff if I can somewhat balance out fleets along with 1905-06 US vs Japan and US vs Germany.
I really like the Pre-dread period and and planning to expand to other nations. I am happy with PS, but it is aways nice to have some variety.

Another NAVCON has come and gone. Another great day for Naval Thunder. There were a total of three NT games on the schedule. Mike and I ran two of them, Historical Java Sea and Alternate History Pearl Harbor Counter strike. Then four of us stuck around for a quick battle of the River Plate scenario (unfortunately quicker than I would have liked as it ended with a bang.) We had 10 players at the Java Sea event and 11 at the Pearl Harbor. Both were capacity plus, but we made room as there were some old hats and a few new comers. I will do up full AARs later for the games we ran, but here are some teaser pics from the action. Java Sea set up and ready to go: It became very bloody as the scenario progressed: Pearl Harbor Counter strike Set up: As it was a night action it also became bloody as the ranges became close: The final game we played was River Plate. I will just say as the Geramn player I had the Exeter on the run until I rolled 0,0 on a secondary penetrating hit. Only time I was able to actually play all day and the only Magazine explsion all day....go figure! Thanks to all that came out an played, I really enjoyed it after a two year absence.

They posted a new schedule today.
I just sent in the following event:
Title: Pearl Harbor Counterstrike- Dec 8th 1941 an alternate history
Description: The Japanese have successfully attacked Pearl Harbor and inflicted significant damage. In addition to the missing carriers three USN Battleships and their escorts were not accounted for. In this alternate history Admiral Kimmel has continued to rotate the battle wagons for maneuvers even on the weekends and Battleship Division One is on manuevers. Immediately following news of the attack Admiral Halsey sought out the IJN strike force, but this time he found them and in a daring twilight strike Scouting 6 managed to score a hits on a IJN flat top causing significant damage. Night has fallen and in the early morning hours of December 8th Battleship Division One makes contact with the wounded carrier and her escorts limping along in the early morning darkness while they also search for the remainder of the IJN striking force in hopes of finding the carriers under the cover of darkness. Now you can play the role of Admiral Kidd aboard the USS Arizona and hope to deal a critical blow to your newly declared enemy or Admiral Nagumo and attempt to safely withdraw and escort your wounded carrier through the night until your planes can again rule the skies.
start date/time: 10/5/13 4:00 PM
Duration: 3-4 hrs
Type: Miniatures
Era: WWII
Max Players: 8
Rules system: Naval Thunder
scale: 1/1800
Game Master: Aaron Filter, Mike Bates

Java sea has been registered, but not posted on the site yet. I also plan to bring my bag of navies for a possible pick up game depending on the mood. Thinking some Pre dread action might be in order.
