Open air gaming with coffee, awesome.
I like how you and your opponent took entirely different approaches to the game. You went for a balanced but larger number of ships whilst your opponent went for the one super ship with some protection.
One piece of tactical advice for your friend, if he ever finds himself in that situation again he might think about screening his smaller ships with the Iowa as it's armour can't be penetrated by what you had and then if you get in too close whiping out and around with his destroyers to drive you away.
Look forward to reading future league games.

Cool stuff man, thanks for posting. Maybe I'm reading the rules wrong - I thought you couldn't do a sub attack on a unit within 6" of another unit with ASW... which (if I'm reading it right) would seem to preclude attacking DDs with subs...?

Good question, cos how we interpret it as ASW value is the number of dice pooled together for detecting / intercepting submarine attack. For pitched battle, any ship can be targeted. However, for "kill the flagship" scenario, only the flagship cannot be targeted so far, the 2 matches played were pitch battle. Tonight we will be having game day 2 at my place, hopefully getting to play "kill the flagship".

How did you guys handle the point blank ranges necessitated by the size of the diner table.
Was there any range adjustment or did you just spend the whole game in knife-fighting distance?

Actually, most of the engagements were at range, only when those destroyers were able to get near enough to launch its torpedoes. Often or not, those destroyers only get 1 go at it b4 sinking. Destroyers aside, no cruiser engagements occur on melee distance lol, just not worth it. No adjustment to size, as all players involve in the league agreed to it
