I'm looking for more information on the IJN armored cruiser Izumo. I've looked at her TROMS and of course read the Wikipedia article (here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_cruiser_Izumo ). One question I had was, it states that in 1921, her boilers were reduced to six Kampon-type boilers. This reduced her top speed to 16 knots. Were these boilers ever restored, or did she get an upgrade later - or was she at 16kt for the rest of her career? I'm especially curious as to the AA refit she received in '42 as well. Any help appreciated!

The following info. is from "Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy, 1869-1945" by Jentschura, Jung, & Mickel. In 1935, Izumo was reboilered with 6 Kampon boilers, 7000 ihp = 16 knots. Her armament was 4 x 8 inch, 8 x 6 inch. In 1944-5 the armament was 4 x 6 inch, 4 x 5 inch, 1 x 3.1 inch AA, 14 x 25 mm AA and speed reduced further to 12 knots. The drawing shows the 4 x 5 inch (AA) sitting on raised platforms where the 8 inch turrets used to be. The 4 x 5 inch arrangement would be a 2 x 2 arrangement.
